Boxers Fracture, doctor didnt put it in a cast?

I managed to get myself a boxers fracture, as its called-a break on the neck of my 5th metacarpal last monday. I've been told I wont have a pinky knuckle anymore at the base of my finger(I'm not too concerned by that.) However the doctor who saw me, has simply buddy taped my little finger to my ring finger and told me to do a simple clenching exercise and go back in 3 weeks. On top of that he said I can change the bandage/taping every few days, so I still have a lot of mobilityand use of my hand.

From what I've read, a lot of the time people with this kind of fracture tend to have their hand put in a cast or even have pins put in. Should I be concerned that the Doctor *didnt* do this? Has anyone else suffered a similar injury, just had the buddy taping method done and how did your hand turn out at the end of it?
I thought that may be the case Roddy. It seems I broke my hand in the most ideal way, if there can be such a thing. If you google boxers fracture, or even on here-pretty much every single case I read had people needing their hand put in a cast/splint, having pins put in, resetting and all sorts.

Its kind of reassuring to know this isn't always the case! I am being very careful with my hand, avoiding anything heavy and if I feel even the mildest strain in the area I stop whatever I'm doing immediately.
