So Harry Potter 6 has broken mid-week opening box office recorRAB and the media seem to be buzzing about it.
I know that recorRAB are meant to be broken, but it's inevitable that this will always happen when ticket prices continually rise. There's nothing to compare it against. When a film makes

If you're interested, there is a list of all time box office recorRAB adjusted for ticket price inflation
HERE.

I notice that only one Potter flick made it into the top 100, at number 66. I doubt the 6th will come close to that in real terms.

And it's never been about how many people saw something, it's about how much money they make. It's a commercial industry, it's what they do.

Its an interesting list. The worldwide all time figures show just four films breaking the billion barrier, Titanics figures are immense. Interesting that the highest Potter is still the first one. The current Potters amazing first day figures are surely down to a huge number of fans wanting to see it as early as possible. Whether it will sustain the break the billion barrier remains to be seen-the last one surely will.

Iv watched Potter and enjoyed it but for me it pales in comparison with The Lord of the Rings.

It's all hyperbole to me.

In the US,ticket prices have gone up by 80% in the last 20 years. There is also twice as many cinemas as there was back then.

They do but they won't release that publicly because ticket sales are actually in decline.

If you raise ticket prices you can still make the same (or more) as the year before but still be selling less tickets.

"Cinema revenue up on last year" sounRAB much better than "Ticket sales down for another year"

Interesting list but is only US box office. Lots of films are massively more successful outside of the American domestioc box office especially Potter, The Pirates of the Carribean Movies and the Bond films. Mama Mia for example was only a minor hit in the states but huge internationally.
