Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

Well, I'm not really sure I agree with this because after one episode we don't know whether Peter is actually having incestuous desires about Pru (I suspect he is, but its not as obvious as the original, which really made it pretty clear right from the first scene) We don't know why Pru is with Gavin. We don't know why Peter has started an affair with Sarah. We don't why Gavin is violent.

So really the jury is still out as to whether, ultimately, the behaviour of the characters will make sense or not.

This is not patch on the orgional series and dissapointingly they have changed the storyline so much ! why do they always do this during remakes?

The only hint of an actual incestuous desire is when Peter kept prying into Pru's love life, in a rather creepy fashion. And when Pru sent him that text- "Daddy, I've been SINFUL" This Peter is controlling but completely uncharismatic.

If it was a straight remake maybe there wouldn't be a point, but it's so different I don't see the point in it having the same title. I was expecting just a few differences.

No you're not.
Ol' wobbly jowls still acts like he's god's gift and is possibly the only man who can get away with that sudden, urgent, explosive sex act thing they always seem to script for him, without being lamped by the lady in question.

who is this paula woman . Im thinking she might have been in that nursing home with the granny , and her son is gavin . Peter did something to her that she did not recover from so now he is taking his revenge .

its rather annoying that we have to wait until next week to find out

you're right but i actually liked the last episode

it made the previous carppy ones make sense, never saw the original one on tv so can't comprare

Pity you haven't access to the original because then maybe you would understand where many of the rest of us are coming from.

In any event I really don't think it is intelligently written or well acted at all. 'Prue' for example is like a miserable insipid cardboard cut-out, and the father reminds me of Ken Barlow.

The grandmother's role was not rounded off at all. I supppose we are to presume she knew about Peter's college affair and daughter, and that's why no-one else was 'allowed' contact with her, but it was another badly thought out strand.

I could not understand what Gavin was saying a lot of the time.

I enjoyed the second episode, but the first and particularly the third I found difficult and ultimately ludicrous.

The problem is 34 years since the origional we have become desensitised so that what was shocking in 1976 isnt today , and values and situations have changes and sexual views have changed so much ... mind well have to wait and see what transpires in the next 2 episodes !
