Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

I agree, the second episode bore no resemblance at all to the original. This is a plot-heavy melodramatic detective story, whereas the original was character-driven drama and as such far more compelling and convincing. I don't know what they thought they were making, but it isn't Bouquet of Barbed Wire.
 
That's OK. No worries. I do tend to be joking 90% of the time - &I can't believe I missed out on the use of a smiley - I'm usually on smiley overload! :o:)
 
That's what 's so great about him , 30 years on it's still basically Shoestring. Man on the edge , world splitting apart at the seams, nutters at every turn , his cool blonde ex living on a yacht ( well maybe not that bit )

That's not what I meant but I can see why you're confused. :p;) The dark haired husband in THIS show played moriarty in sherlock. The antagonist in this. I was wondering if Jemima was playing his sister in this... based on the eyes. Shawk Twist! etc. So you don't think she's wearing contacts then? :eek:;)
 
I remember the original series very well indeed, it made quite an impact - but I don't remember Gavin being violent to Prue. He was quite a pleasant, charming American chap and he loved Prue who was unbelievably sexy. Frank Finlay was quite sexy as her father and the girl with whom he had an affair (his secretary), was beautiful.

I do remember Prue saying, "Do you know daddy is screwing his secretary?" at the dinner table. She worked up to it by comparing the new secretary with the old one (Monica, I think), saying things like, "She's not like Monica, is she daddy?", with dad saying, "No-one could be like Monica, bless her". I honestly don't remember Gavin punching Prue in the woods after that.

The current Gavin appears to have beaten Prue for no reason at all. Horrible man. Wonder if mum (Cassie) will have an affair with him, as in the original?
 
From what I read in Total TV Guide, Cassie and Gavin do get 'passionate' (i.e. they kiss) which was strange for Hermione because Tom is much younger (14 years). Not sure whether or not it's a full-on affair but didn't that come in the sequel back in 1977?

I've never read the book but I'm tempted. I was only 8 when the original aired so it's not like I was, psychologically, analysing all that was going on; at least, not consciously. Watched it with my nan :o to whom I was despatched of a Friday night back then :D
 
But I'm not talking about real life :confused: In the context of the production, surely there have been some redeeming quality that we the viewers should see so we understand her attraction to him? It's too rushed. And believe me I've lived with a complete tosser before but there is always something nice initially to attract you to him at the start before you start to see the real person
