Boulevard C-50 needs help

Washed bike and now when shifting into gear engine kills while clutch is still engaged. Can anyone help?????????????? Thanks

you mean as you try to engage first gear it dies?
you mean you try to start it with the clutch engaged and it dies?:roll:
you mean it idles fine ?

what did you wash it with ?

is it black ? :lol4:

Washed with lite soap & water. No high pressure used. Engine starts fine but dies when put in gear.

Kickstand up or down? If down it will stall when put into gear. Maybe a dumb answer but just checking.

tell us what happens if you twist the accelerator? Does it rev up normally?

Not dumb at all. It probably IS the kickstand switch that is stuck or shorted out by water so that it appears to be down even if it is not...........or a wire that it is loose or broken and the washing is just a coincidence.

That was my first thought - kickstand down or switch stuck/shorted. Other than that we'd meed a bit more detail of the problem.

I checked mine out and it probably is the switch pin stuck or a possible short as the wires are not protected very well. Maybe a little wd would do the trick if not locate the short.

Yep, definitely sounds like something related to the kick stand switch. I has a similar problem with my '79 Yamaha XS1100. It had a couple of wrapped wires that sometimes when I'd wash it, even though I knew of the problem and would try to avoid direct water on those specific wrapped wires, it would still get enough moisture inside the wrapping to keep it from starting. After a few hours of drying it would crank up without a problem.

I agree with the kickstand switch...Mine did that once since I bought it, mine was unplugged...
