Bottom right of rib cage is painful

I've had this pain at the bottom right of my rib cage for months (maybe even over a year) but it was always fairly minor and I never though anything of it but the last few days it's been causing me more grief and I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions as to what might be wrong.

It feels fairly bruised and is more painful when I press where I am in the photos (very bottom rib basically). At first I thought it was some kind of muscular pain as stretching it out seemed to relieve pain a bit but now I'm not sure it's making any difference.

(im sure you can guess the stars :/ )

Thanks for any help and sorry if this is in the wrong place, I had a look down the board and couldn't see anything specific for rib/abdomen problems!

i am just wondering exactly where the pain is? is it ON the ribs themselves or what is kind of underneath them? this would be where the liver kind of sits the most. FB

Cortez,

It sounds like a possible gall bladder problem. Does it hurt more after eating? The gall bladder sits right under the right rib, and when it is inflammed, it presses on that area.

It's not something I've really noticed but I just looked on netdoctor and saw this:

Acute cholecystitis (acute inflammation or infection of the gall bladder)

This condition results in:

* persistent pain and a temperature lasting more than 12 hours
* pain and tenderness under the ribs on the right side
* pain that is made worse by movement or coughing.

All in bold apply but not really coughing since I don't cough much, hurts when I sneeze though!

Guess I should get it checked out really.
