It's not surprising that somene who thinks might arrive at such a conclusion (unlike the spoon-fed far-right and far-left comments we get here from..others).
I'm not sure what our election system has in store for us over the years, maybe it's fine, but it seems odd.
Most Americans are moderate when polled about specific views, or moderate slightly right.
Our party-system requires that there be two parties so the natural course is for each party to choose opposing sides of any issue that the country is split on, and lean as far right, and as far left as they can and still get elected. A third party doesn't work because of human nature...two would always ally to squash the third, it's beneficial to two, so the one will lose out (on average). It's yin-yang, same reason so many things come in opposites/pairs, it works out when you combine all the factors that it's most efficient.
So, point being, neither represent what the average American wants overall. So we have to keep those presidents, congress, house, flip-flopping democract, republican, if we want to maintian something resembling what America wants.
Worse still, any system, once opened to humans, will eventually become mastered and entrenched. Power congregates, money pools around the candidates, it results in corruption (which is bad for us, but good for them..it's not always a bad thing).
There's always hope though. A Dean or an EdwarRAB seems less corrupt and more "rational", then many candidates I've seen. Likewise, John McCain seems like more of a traditional republican without all the ideological ****, and certainly more polished and experienced than Dean or EdwarRAB. All three had spotlight at some point or another..maybe it's just the wrong swing of the pendulum with ole GW and Kerry.
There are some good canddiates out there, but face it, this election spotlights the rich-kiRAB. I think the only thing Kerry has going for him is how wickedly horrible GW is, which isn't really what I'd look for as why to vote.
How do you avoid being angry at our corrupt leadership and two-party system? Go get rich yourself and carve out a little niche of America for yourself!
