Borstal Boy (Danny Dyer 2000 film)

Sorry I can't help. I've not seen it or even heard of it or come to that the book it's based on or the author.
I have an automatic avoid filter when it comes to Danny Dyer and avoid him as much as I can.

I agree with what you say about Danny Dyer, but would disagree with you about Scum. I think that is an over rated film that may have been controversial at the time but isn't actually that good. It doesn't help that I'm not a big Ray Winstone fan either.
 
when I was young I watched it with my dad and he said Id go there if I was naughty to my sister. I was naughty to my sister of course but i didnt go to borstal thank god. Didnt fancy getting knocked upside the head with pool balls in a sock!!

i saw it when I was 11 and again at maybe 15, so 11 years ago, I remember it had a big impact on me but maybe it was rubbish, sorry

I liked the grittiness of The Firm with Oldman and Made in Britain with Roth, I saw those recently

it just seems that those movies really capture grittiness of reality as opposed to the entertaining but romantic notions of guy ritchie type/ danny dyer type movies
 
I would say yes the film is worth watching.
Its a good enough film, and despite what his critics like to think Dyer can actually act when he can be bothered to.
Borstal Boy is one of those, admitdley rare, occasions. He gives a subtle and touching performance and imo outshines the films star Brendan Behan.

But it does beg the question why cant hedeliver that kind of performance everytime?
 
Well have seen this now... any fans of Danny Fyer, he shows his bottom in this (and he plays a gay sailor)

Was okay film, but more like a reasonably gentle coming of age film with "moments"
