Those are colonies, that is not the United States of America. The United States of America was founded as an anti-authoritarian nation where people, in theory, could live as they pleased. Obviously, we're not there yet, but that's the spirit of what we were founded upon. Freedom, and liberty.
We are not a theocracy. A theocracy is, by it's very definition, authoritarian. Again, you are free to live your life as you wish to. Just as long as you do not impose your beliefs upon me.
Oh, and just for the record, "In God We Trust" did not exist on our currency until the Red Scare in the 1950's. Nor was "under god" in the pledge of allegiance until that point.
We are not a theocracy. We are an anti-authoritarian nation where we are free to live as we choose to live.
To me, there is no greater evil than trying to impose your will on another human being. Everyone leaves everyone else alone.
