Born Again Christians -- Holier Than Thows

I wanna know

Dont know if this is the right place, but oh well. Screw it.

Went to church this morning out of respect for my parents. I tried being cool with everyone up there and saying hi and all. But what got under my skin was these holier than thow born again christians that think their better than every one else.

I mean Im a christian myself, but I dont look down on someone cause of their stature in life. Shit, we take a dump the same way. What makes them any better than me? Just because they may drive a better car than I do? (2005 Ford Escape 4x4 v6) This is why I hate going to church. So piss on the Born Agains. They can get slapped with a trout.

;794854']Preacher: Come on up here, son... accept Jesus as your personal savior and you will be saved!
Dude: What do you mean?
Preacher: I mean your sins will be forever forgiven, and you will go to heaven!
Dude: No matter what?
Preacher: No matter what.
Dude: So I can do whatever I want?
Preacher: Well, now son,.. If you were truly saved you would not wish to do such things...
Dude: OKay, let's make me 'saved'.
Preacher: Our Father, (kisses God's ass for 30 minutes)...and by the blood of Christ you are saved!
Dude: Really? (kicks preacher in the nuts) I guess you were doing it wrong. I still wanna sin.

It's a bunch of vague stuff, if you could tangibly measure it or prove it, then it wouldn't work.

I personally just cannot believe in a God who demands to be worshipped, and wants me to jump through a bunch of hoops with stipulations and disclaimers if I dont want to be tortured for eternity. To make matters worse, they tell you that if you doubt the validity of their borderline absurd stories, you're basically going to hell because you dont have faith.

I mean if that's your bag, that's great, it helps people and makes some people happy, that's awesome. It just doesn't work for me. I spent too much time in my life feeling like I was a horrible, bad person because I just always felt like it was a little hokey.

Not all of the born again christens think their better, only some do.
Religion is about personal choice, and NO PERSON should be able to say what religion is better, worse, or wrong. Its all choice, it just so happens that several religions try to coax you into joining the, which isn't bad, but if they do it ever single week...

you don't remember? their poop doesn't stink. they don't even poop. NOTHING comes out of those holes on the bottom except babies. and don't ask how babies were conceived, cause they don't know.

i'm a born again Christian but i am NOT someone who thinks i am better than everyone. those people bother me, also. i have a friend who is currently in this, i'm better than you stage, and i want to smack her. i don't see her that often because i live at school, but when i'm home, i get super pissed.

In my experience, they've been some of the most over bearingly nice people I've ever met. I knew this chick who's parents were born again, and they'd give me the sinners prayer when I came over.

Toward the end of it they got a clue. When one of their grandsons was having a birthday party, they told me I could find the kind of toy they wanted in a Christian bookstore, then we all laughed about it for a few.

:)

I think that totally depends on the person. I've been in plenty of churches where I couldn't stand the people. In fact, the first time I met my fiancee's mom, she acted like a total zealot and that turned me off. (Plus, she's just nuts.)

I like people who are kind to others and practice the work of the lord, not those who go to church on Sunday and forget about God all the rest of the week.

Agreed. I was raised Christian. I could never accept the fact that there are so many religions out there - why should Christianity be the only correct one? I went through a few rough years when I was younger where I didn't believe at all. Now I just believe in the principle of religion in general, which to me means being good to other people. I just think there must be some kind of God out there with some kind of intentions.

I also get pissed when people act like their religion is so good. It may sound good, but millions have died in war because of it. Also, let's spend a million bucks on a building to worship in rather than helping those in need. If you really want to be a good Christian, read your kids the fucking Bible and use that money for something useful.

Anymore, I'm terrible when I go to church (Christmas). I recall the preacher saying something about being filled with the lord's love. It gave me a nice mental image for the explanation of the immaculate conception. I'll bet it hurt. My brother and I actually both started laughing out loud in the church.

i can relate.

i told my parents years back that i didn't like the cult.

the people just got to me...'so what are you up to?' 'find a new place to go on sun mornings?'

yeh. golfing, fishing, sleeping...

Hey, if they want to float around life on their personal cloud of self-righteousness, let them. I dont go to church. I hate group worship. I consider myself a very spiritual and religious person. I've been called a hethan, and blasphemis by those crazy, old godsent ladies at public events (You know the ones, "watch this five minute video and go to heaven") for argueing with their statements and proposing other possibilities and beliefs. I've learned not to waste my time with it, but still maintain the belief that God isnt so much a movie, as he is a friend. Something we carry with us, to help us reach goals, and the end of the day, at that. I dont so much believe that God is inside of us, but BEside us. To help us. I feel like i sort have strayed off topic, sorry.

Well since nobody answered my question, people who grew up with the bible, and people who read the bible, know that the holier than thou attitude and behaviour and passing judgement on others are not part of getting into heaven. Humility, charity, and faith are. Anyone who doesn't believe me, pick up the bible and read it, or just google it.

I know people who think they are better than others because they read all the classics, or all the nietzes, or all the frueds, or all the ancient philosophers. But, I suppose they can think they are all holier than others or more enlightened because they are not Christians. Then again, Christians who think they are better than anyone that is not a Christian really isn't a Christian. Jesus saved a whore from stoning, for the love of God. Jesus washed beggar's feets and gave all he had to others, all for the glory of God and not for the glory of himself.

Modern Christians spend way too much time watching the BULLSHIT on TV and not reading thier bible or listening to thier hearts.

You can all bash me, but I know what the bible says and I know what my heart says.

Only if you wash my feet and stand up in the face of hypocracy at the same time and say cool stuff like "let he who has not sinned cast the first stone" and then make lots of fishy appear. And have a book written about it. Then I might call you Jesus, but until then I'll just call you monkey breath...dun dun DUN!
