Boris

nice one.... what else are you into?

My thoughts on Boris vary.. they're so prolific its impossible to hear enough of their releases to form an opinion on the band IMO. i do like what ive heard though, which is Pink, Sun Baked Snow Cave and the fantastic Altar.

just downloaded "Heavy Rocks", "Pink", and "Vein" (hardcore version)... listened to most of "Pink", listening to "Vein" now.

loving all of it so far.

Rainbow, a collaboration with guitarist Kurihara, is as far as I ever got with Boris. Dunno whether I can be bothered to try out Pink.

I like their faster stuff, but I checked out Feedbacker and I like it. sunn is only decent to me, have to be in the right mood to listen to it... I definitely could see how Boris would be better at it. I prefer Earth to Sunn either way.

I'm into alot of stuff, my taste in music is so varied that its hard to even begin making a list of what I like.

The one thing that gets me about them is that most of their releases are impossible to find in America. I have Amplifier Worship, Megatone, and Heavy Rocks.

They're not easy to get hold of here in the UK either.. surprisingly the collaboration with Sunn O))) is the most widely distributed!

apart from my local record store (who buy in alot of good stuff) i usually buy stuff off the internet, Important RecorRAB and Crime mail-order are two of my favourite online stores... both of which stock various Boris releases.

Bump because i'm ruining the Earth thread :D

I'm addicted to them, the only other band i've been properly addicted to this year apart from The Fall and Can. Every album has it's own unique feel. I especially like the way that with albums like Amplifier Worship or Feedbacker they seperate these long sounRABcapes or stoner rock-style riRAB with them just rocking out, it keeps everything fresh. It's amazing jusy how much music they can touch upon as a three piece, on Smile they even touch upon electro with their drum machines.

If i had to recommend one album it may well still be Pink because i see it as what the Zep would be if they were japanese and more avantgarde, but Heavy Rocks is brilliant as well with Akuma No Uta growing on me too. The more drone i listen to i'll like their abums more in that vein as well i'm sure.

it is... did you manage to get hold of the limited 2CD version? the second CD is one track, a 23 min collaboration between Boris, Sunn O))) and the guy from Earth. it is immense!

Heavy Rocks is a brutal album. While Pink has more energy oozing from it than the sun. I've got the altar collab but I don't like it as much as the other 2 albums I've got, though it is astoundigly heavy.

Boris are indeed fucking top-shelf stuff. I love them.

I wasn't looking for more drone. I think I only looked for it because you said something about it. So really, this is all your fault.

I'll definitely check into those albums.

I listened to Feedbacker for the first time recently and it's very drone-heavy. Really a fantastic record to get lost in. As was mentioned on the last page their output is so frequent that there are still plenty of Boris recorRAB to investigate. With the recent addition of Feedbacker I still only have 5 of them and the fantastic collab with Sunn O))).

I got to see them live a couple of years back at a very small venue in Newcastle. A fantastic local psychedelic band formed by a couple of laRAB I know supported them too and it was a great night. Boris are unrelenting live, whether their sets are predominantly arabient, drone, heavy it really doesnt matter, they are just full on for the full duration.
