Borat - Have I missed something?

bang on the money,, warren mitchell was also jewish, funnily enough, although i believe johnny speight wrote the alf garnett stuff, which my mum reckons was based on her dad, who she hated.

I have seen the movie and can honestly say - even though I though it was going to be a big mistake - that it is absolutely hilarious. I haven't laughed so much, and so hard, in years.

SounRAB a reasonable comparison, actually. Different comedy, but essentially the same principle. Right-wing Garnett was a joke at the expense of racists, and was played by (rather posh) Jewish left-wing humanist Warren Mitchell. In the same way Borat is a joke about ignoranty anti-semites by Jewish Oxbridge actor Sacha Baron Cohen.

It's a very good comparison, to be honest.

EDIT: I see others have pointed that out. Must read whole threaRAB. :o

Saw Borat today and honestly I can't remember laughing so much, an instant classic.
The 'fight' scene was probably the funniest thing I've seen but it's not for the faint hearted!

Can't wait to see this movie! I find the Borat character hilarious but what I love even more is people's reactions to him. He really manages to make some Americans look stupid on his show though.

What I wondered about the movie though, In his tv show it's real unsuspecting members of the public. I take it the people in the movie know that Borat isnt a real character or do they actually think he's a journalist from kazakhstan?

He's a funny character but I'm not sure I'd be able to watch 90 minutes of him. His whole act revolves around provoking reactions from unsuspecting people, a little cringeworthy and painful to watch sometimes
