Boost your Realplayer bitrate - Above the original Limit!

C:\video_config\RNEngineUser.cfg

Change ##### in the following config line to a suitable bitrate

Anything above 300000 is suitable, but Realplayer will studder when playing above 200kbps. So it's useless to go too high.

If you use Gnubox Bluetooth :

GPRSSustainBandwidth:Interger : #####;

If you use EDGE :

EGPRSSustainBandwidth:Interger : #####;

If you use WCDMA/3G

WCDMASustainBandwidth:Interger : #####;

If you use WiFi

WLANSustainBandwidth:Interger : #####;

Anyways, you get the drift. Anything else is just for the selectable options in bandwidth. Useless unless you plan to change it often.

ENJOY! Makes ORB a much more suitable SLINGBOX solution

Hello,

Thanks for passing on the great info.I wish I could get rid of those horrible Bandwith errors when trying to stream tv through orb on EDGE.I am a newbie to all this so how exactly do I apply these changes on the Nokia E61...

Thanks in advance!!

download x-explorer http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=xplore

Once installed, in the Tools/Configuration of X-Plore, check the boxes "Show Hidden files" & "Show system files/folders"

Click "back"

then browse in the C: drive as explained in the steps above. Highlight the file, click on "menu" then go to "file" then go to "edit"

you'll see the .cfg file in a text editor. Find the lines I mention above and do exactly as I said above.

Then select "menu" and "save"

I don't stream over EDGE since EDGE is able to stream only like 80kbps steady and that's horrible quality.

I stream over GNUBOX (which is a bluetooth trick to get to connect to the internet via bluetooth through your computer). Realplayer thinks im on GPRS when I use GNUBOX.

300000 = 300kbps
300000 are bytes

200000 is ideal for WCDMA/WIFI/GNUBOX

I am not even able to stream with my E61 on Edge it gives me a bandwidth error.When I use my pocket PC I am able to stream on EDGE and the quality is not bad at all.What do you recommend I set the EGPRS setting at to at least be able to stream some tv video on the rogers network

Maybe I wasnt clear when I wrote this guide.

THIS IS TO REMOVE THE BANDWIDTH ERROR.

The .cfg file puts LIMITS on the bitrate of the streaming video/audio

This guide is to modify these limits and increase them so you don't get an error anymore.

However, if you choose very high bandwidth on a slow connection, you'll have a lot of buffering going on.

To diminish the buffering times, you can increase the amount of buffer Realplayer will record before starting the playback.

Add these two lines ANYWHERE in the .cfg

TargetBufTime:Integer = 1200000;
MinPreroll:Integer = 60000;

These are miliseconds. First line = ideal buffer to maintain. Second line = buffer BEFORE beginning playback (this is the one you want to increase).

The higher the number (60000 = 60 seconds) the more it will pre-download before starting to play.

The picture quality on my E61 when streaming TV with Realplayer is horrible even over wlan.I get pixeling,shading etc....How is your picture quality.......

The quality of the streaming videos vary from your configuration.
You can go in realplayer, options, network, advanced, and select specific bitrates.

The higher, the better. However, you will notice that there is a maximum bitrate.

My guide is to allow you to chose bitrates that are higher than the maximum.

To stream using edge you need to set everything to 80kbps.
If your using orb the 4 settings on the bottom of the site has 80, you need to click that.
When you go to your realplayer settings on your phone change the bitrate to 80kbps.
This will sync with orb and allow you to stream content.
No more errors.

ahh but see, Realplayer won't allow you to go higher than that on EDGE. However, EDGE can go at a peak of 228kbps. So we can assume 160kbps streaming is sustainable.

You'd get a bandwidth error if you select 160bps on ORB. The error is because Realplayer THINKS 160kbps is impossible on EDGE. Hence my first post trick comes into play.

So, my E61 currently has...

WLANMaximumBandwidth:Interger : 1432572
WLANSustainBandwidth:Interger : 1002800
WLANMinimumBandwidth:Interger : 5000

What could I change to improve things?

Also, this file was in my Z:\resource drive for some reason...
