I have a lot of books I would like to sell in a yard sale but having trouble deciding how much to sell them for. I have read several sites and most have said to sell things for like 30% of the "new" price. I have a lot of paperbacks in good condition that were like $12-$14 when i bought them. And 2 Harry Potter (Hardback never been read) which are listed @ $19.99 and $29.99 if bought new. I checked eBay and looked @ some of the prices for the books I have and most are at least $4 w/ shipping if not more. So what would be a good price for books like that? Most of my books, bought new and for sale were about $13 each. Thought about selling them for like $3 or $4 or less if they are creased or have damage. I know people go to yard sales to get Cheap stuff but how cheap is too cheap from a seller's prospective.

when i have sales, i realized books, no matter what condition they're in, will only sell at about $1-2. it whether you want to sell them, even if it's cheaper then you think they should be, or if you want them still there after the sale.
The question you need to ask yourself is what you will do if the books don't sell. Will you keep them, give them away? What is your time worth when it comes to finding another way to get rid of them?
People will not pay close to retail for a book at a garage sale. Harry Potter is a very popular book, but many people have already read it or own a copy. If you were selling a like new, recently published, bestseller, it would be different. On Ebay, people can wait for someone to come along who is ready to pay so they list and re-list. A lot of those $4 + shipping books will take weeks to sell.
If you want to move them, I would put the hardbacks at $5, the bigger paperbacks at $4 and the smaller paperbacks at $2. The higher you go from there, the less likely they are to sell.

if the books are new and fairly think(Harry Potter) i say anywhere from 5-7 dollars. if the are a little tore maybe1-4 dollars.
*remember people come to a yard-sale to look for bargain or they would just go to walmart.* keep that in mind.
