Books Into Films

I love films that are adapted from books (Practical Magic, Gone With The Wind, Green Mile etc). I cant wait for The Lovely Bones to come out, and i would love to see Good Omens made into a film. Are there any books that you would like to see made into a film?

I am not really a fan of film adaptations of books, mostly because a reader will take a personally subjective view of the book while reading it. Whereas a film is just the directors/writers/producers idea of what the book should be like. So while there are books I personally like, I wouldn't want them spoiled by a bad film.

All that said there are some films that have managed to carry it off well, Green Mile being one of the best I know of.

If they absolutely promised to do it properly and let me have casting and script approval, I wouldn't mind seeing John Connolly's Charlie Parker series turned into movies. But only if Peter Sarsgaard plays Charlie, Jamie Foxx plays Louis, and possibly Harvey Keitel to play Angel, although I'm open to suggestions on that one as he's slightly too old for the part.

I usually think the book is better. Trainspotting was done very well.

And I didn't know The Lovely Bones is being made into a film, though I always thought it would work well. Fantastic, I'll look forward to that!

the trouble is the film version is made for the great unwashed where as the books are made for people that can actually read

very rearely is a film better than a book version

i had this arguement with a mate and I said you can do anything in a book but you are limited on a film and he said that wasn't true

to make my point i said I could write a book where I have sex with Dannii Minogue all day long, but you can't do that on a film :D

The classic novels often turn out well, especially Emma Thompson's version of Sense and Sensibility

and Silence of the Lambs worked brilliantly, in no small part to the great performances of Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins

personally i thought stormbreaker was very average adaption of the excellent book but my girlfriend loves it and she got me into it. very good movie but the book is still way better.

I love that book, always makes me cry, hopefully they wont ruin it. I agree that most of the time the book is better then the film (after all theres no limit to imagination), but not always. I prefer to read the book first then watch the film, otherwise i have the actor/actresses face in my head as the character.
