I like reading books that have children, teenagers, young adults that are growing up in the old days, like early 1900's. Preferably deep southern USA?

Well, before I read the part about "preferably deep southern USA", I was going to suggest Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay or Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli. Both are about children who live through WWII, and Sarah's Key includes the story of the child after she had grown up and married.
