I am a high schooler who is relatively new to reading for leisure. I have no idea what to read to be honest. I am trying to find something that is good for me, but feel that I need some recommendations to get me started.
I have a short attention span. I can't stand to read books that take two paragraphs to describe a persons' hair or are 800 pages long.
I like to read about history, philosophy, science, and emotions (books that bring about emotions), but I like to read about these topics on a superficial level. I want something more in depth than a blog post and less in depth than a textbook. The last thing I want is something that cites a bunch of sources and uses technical terms. I HATE technicality and details, I want to keep things simple.
I enjoy making connections. If I read about the Native Americans and their governments, I'll get bored quickly. If I learn how their forms of government influenced the founding fathers, my interest will be captured. If I read about the cell, I'll get bored quickly. If someone can put the importance of the cell into layman's terms (the foundation of life, cloning, etc...) I'll be interested.
I'd like to read something that is written in modern English. Victorian English aggravates me.
I'm willing to read fiction, but it needs to be of good quality. I like DEEP characters (not psuedo-intellectual or emo deep), a story that catches your attention from the beginning, and a good author. The author needs to be able to write in a non intrusive way.
So, does anyone have any book recommendations.
