book about a boy who's father was an astronaut?

It's a young adult novel i read in middle school. I can't seem to remember the name. The story centers around a teenage boy who is the child of a divorced father and mother. He has to go live with his dad and he really despises him. His dad is a former astronaut and is very materialistic and cares about his reputation. THe boy falls in love with a girl, and he always goes to the nursing home with her to visit a friend of hers. Okay, she eventually cheats on him with a teacher that they both looked up to and it was horribly sad. I can't remember how it ends.

Do any of you know this book?
