BONES Anime - Xam'd: Lost Memories

I know there was a topic about two weeks ago about BONES putting a new anime on the Playstation Network. Figured I'd make a topic to see if anyone was watching it. Two episodes are out right now. What do you guys think?

IMO, I love the animation, but then again, I've always like BONES' animation. Series is too early to be able to say if I like the story or not, but I do like what I see so far.

I LOVE this show. It's filled the void that Eureka Seven left after it finished. So far they haven't explained much since its been only two episodes but Akiyuki's transformation into Xam'd is really cool. It looks like a hollow transformation in Bleach but much more freaky.

Plus, the OP is just...awesome
SHUT UP AND EXPLODE by BOOM BOOM SATELLITES.
Yes that is actually the name of the song.

I know it wasn't long ago. That was the first thing I said in my post >.> It just wasn't a talkback thread or anything. It was just announcing it, so I figured I should separate the topic. =p

Same. I am also not to keen on the main character going through such a weird transformation all the time (does remind me of King Gainer though).

But I will congratulate the creative team for making an environment full of radically different animals and technology that actually look functional.

Still have to see the second episode, but I'm curious how they'll fit mecha into this.

So is the girl on the hovercraft a nod to Nausicaa?

That opening music is phenomenal.

Thanks for reviving this thread and reminding me to watch this. I can't pass up an anime series by Bones, even if one of their most well-known was NGE rip off. I prefer Gainax, but I can watch theirs and this one. I finally watched episode 1. I can't wait to watch more.

I've been watching it since week one. It is one of my favorite animes to come out this year. That was also a shocking way to end the last episode (Ep. 14), though.

No its not. I don't know what gave you that idea.

It went on hiatus for a while but now its back.

Wow, Furuichi....I mean, Damn. I had to watch that like twice before I realized that's what he did.

That is why I had a questionmark. I saw no talk about it for a bit. I just did not know.

Thanks for the clear up though mate

So anybody else see this through to the end?

I....I don't know what was going on right till the end. Though I'm glad the series had a happy ending....or something....I'm assuming that's what happened since everyone ended up happy at the end.

Though between all the psuedo-religious lingo between the episodes when Akiyuki left the ship up till now, I don't even know what they were talking about though the last fight in 25 was freaking amazing though, I have to wonder when did Akiyuki in Xam'd form somehow start busting out powers like it was nobody's buisness. I mean, he somehow was able to shoot those green beams of death and fly like he was always able to. And the way he defeated the Hiruken Emperor (WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT THING SUPPOSED TO BE ANYWAY?) was a little bit less cheesy than the way the Digidestined defeated MaloMyotismon in Digimon Adventure 02. ("I give you my name." "Thank you" Fight over. WTF?)

Still this was entertaining and I really hope adult swim....I mean Sci-Fi runs it at some point. Though it is still confusing as heck.

EDIT: "SHUT UP AND EXPLODE" IS THE GREATEST ENGRISH OP I'VE EVER HEARD! (Can't believe the entire song was in english.)

Rented all 26! Plus, as a special bonus to myself, the last 7 in HD. And, as my signature said, this show was made with Awesome Sauce. And, I was almost ballin' at the end. I was about to cry throughout the second half of Episode 26, mostly because 9 years later and Haru was morphing into a cat lady, except instead of talking to cats, she's talking to the stone rock that was her boyfriend. At least Akiyuki was able to get out of his rock formation at the end thanks to the cat lady.

I enjoyed that almost everyone ended on a happy note (save for Nakiami's 1000-year sleep ) and were actually given endings (unlike the somewhat-similar Eureka Seven where only Renton, Eureka, the kiRAB, and Grandpa were given definite enRAB). And, no matter how cheesy the ending was, the ride was one of the best things Sony has ever given.

Think about it. Sony took a risk with Xam'd. A subtitled-only anime, released only on the least-popular system (PS3) at the moment (along with the PSP), weeks before the native country got it (and once it caught up with us, was released simultaneously), and available only as a rental at a price $1 more than to own? And, guess what? The show was not only good, but it was a big hit on the service. The top download the first week of the video service. Subsequent episodes have made it and continue to be on the top of the service's tv downloaRAB. So, kudos to Bones for making it, Sony for giving it a chance, and the fans (like myself) for dropping cash every week to figure out what's going to happen next. More kudos for the Opening and Ending themes by Boom Boom Satellites and Kylee. The Opener is one of the best opening themes and sequences of all time (Believe It!) and the Ender has grown on me. BTW, both are on iTunes and Amazon MP3 (props to Sony for releasing these songs for us to buy).

Final things: Boom Boom Satellites has decided on their AMVJ Competition involving Xam'd a few weeks ago. This is the winner. Top 3 listing here.
Also, Sony, can we get it on DVD and Blu-ray? I'll buy both versions. Plus, dub it now.

Yeah, I wish I could have downloaded it in HD. You're lucky there.

I also have to admit that giving everybody an actual ending is something that is not seen a lot these days in anime (well that or the anime catches up to the manga thus they have to bull**** an ending) so I really did like seeing a true end. It's funny how similar this show was to Eureka Seven at the beginning and then like in an instant you realize the similarities are completely gone. Man between Soul Eater, FMA and Xam'd I'm finding it hard to not think of this company as the greatest animation group ever.

(I gotta admit, for a while, I thought Akiyuki would end up with Nakiami. Glad that idea passed )

EDIT: (When Yango came in I was like "Akiyuki, you've been replaced)

Yeah, agreed. I think Yango took Akiyuki's place as Nakiami's "understudy" of sorts when everyone got separated like that.

Also, I wouldn't go as far as claiming BONES to be the best as they have released some stinkers here and there, but between FMA, Eureka Seven (

For most of the series I was rooting for Akiyuki/Nakiami just because I felt it was someting Nakiami needed. But as we got more development for Haru and saw how tied she was to Akiyuki I think the ending was appropriate. At times I was a little baffled at what was going on with all the religious/pseudo-intellectual being bandied about.

There was a lot of really touching moments in the last few episodes and I was bummed about Raigyo, but his final scene was pretty strong.

The final episode was very moving and I haven't been that touched by an epilogue/ending montage to anything since Turn-A Gundam's final one. I'm glad we got to see so many of the characters grown up and how they were advancing with their lives.

It's ultimately bittersweet because of Nakiami. When she wakes up everyone she befriended and ultimately helped save will have died of old age though
