Bone Bruise Swelling - any recommendation?

About 1 1/2 - 2 weeks ago, I received a blow to my cheekbone. I went to the doctor who told me I have a contusion/bruise and recommended that I continue to ice the area and take pain killers if necessary. While most of the initial complaints have subsided, there seems to be some residual swelling right over the area of injury. The doctor said that swelling from a bone bruise can last for several weeks, even months. My question is - is there anything to speed up the reduction of this pocket of swelling? A cream, an over the counter pill, a herbal product? Some people have told me fish oil? I have some arnica gel. Any recommednations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know man, the topical stuff would work for a scar but for a bruise underneath the skin .. not sure. Rest, ice, and not aggravate it.

OK - it has now been 5 1/2 weeks since the blow, and there is still swelling over the injury site. I've iced it, i've taken anti-infammatories, but this small of lump of swelling is real stubborn. I spoke to the doctor who said to give it another month (this was last week). I know bone bruises supposedly take forever and a day to heal, but does this include the accompanying swelling? My guess is this is some kind of hematoma or edema fluid/tissue retention. Again, most of the symptoms are gone except for this puffy swelling right over the area. Is there anything I can do or is this just a waiting game? Dit Da Jow maybe?

No. The doctor observed the area and felt the bone and determined that the bone was probably not displaced. He said even if there was a microfracture to the bone it would heal on its own, but felt it was just a contusion from his observation. Now I'm wondering whether this is really the case. I know you will suggest an x ray, and I was surprised he didn't feel it was necessary, but he is a doctor so I thought I could go with his assesment. Anyway, aside from that, is there any suggestion with respect to the puffy swelling that still remains? And I will try and get an x ray this week and go from there.
