I'm having some writer's block with this college-level essay. I know I want to write about "Embryonic Stem Cell Research," but I don't know what an appropriate thesis should be or what my reasoning to support it would be. I'm supposed to have 4 supporting points to my argument and address 2 oppositions.
I've thought about the thesis "Embryonic stem cell research is ethical even if an embryo is destroyed," but I'm unsure of what my reasoning is to support it. Perhaps "An embryo is not a person," and then rebut the opposition statements "Stem cells do not need to come from embryos" by arguing that they do and "Sacrificing an embryo to save others is not ethical" by addressing the point that embryos would be destroyed anyways by clinics if they weren't used to yield stem cells for research.
Can anyone give specific and helpful advice as to the direction and style of argument I should use? Any comment, suggestion, or help will be useful.
Thanks!
