Always wondered about the lyrics to this song.

Some things which have bothered my for years.

Where the people in the song supposed to be black ? Bobbie Gentry was white.



Is this hinting at them throwing a baby off a bridge ?

The reason why Billie joe jumped off the bridge ?

Any help would be appreciated.
 
I don't think it's anything that specific. The point is that she & Billie Joe were closer than they let on and people saw them together the day he died.

With what they were dropping off the bridge, again I don't think it's really important. It's just illustrating that they were together. For all we know they might have been dropping sticks to have boat races.
