Bob Sapp to fight Ultimate Muscle character in sanctioned MMA bout. Really.

I've seen Bob Sapp in a couple of Japanese comedy shows and those were absolutely hilarious. I knew a bit about his fight history but not the one fight.

Anyway, it is unfortunate that those comedy shows I mentioned couldn't be licensed and brought to the U.S.

Wow! That costume looks pretty good!

Kid/Mantaro should do his cow and rice dance before entering the ring

So Bob Sapp
Is essentially a wrestler now? That looked so ubelievably fake and staged. All the punches being thrown while they were on the mat had almost nothing behind them and then when they finally did have an exchange by Sapp near the end which led to a TKO it almost looked like every significant blow by him was pulled so it just brushed the guys head. He did hit one fairly square on the face. But I still call bogus on the whole thing.

Well, who do you think is the next anime boxing/wrestling character to fight in MMA?

Joe Yabuki? (from Ashita no Joe)
Baki Hanma? (from Baki the Grappler)

Any ones I've missed?

If you go by crowd reaction I'm guessing if they do it again it will be considerably less. The crowd went pretty silent during most of the fight kinda like "uh, what the heck is this?"

Pretty bad ratings actually. The Sapp-Mantaro fight only scored 11.8%. FEG's management sent a goal of 15% for the ratings.

So not only have they effectively killed Kinnikuman in Japan, the ratings weren't high enough to justify it.

At least Sapp's happy, having destroyed a manga icon.

I thought that was going to be epic, but no Kinniku Buster, I can understand Muscle Millennium not being perform since that does seem like a hard move to pull off in real life... screw it, it is physically impossible to pull of Muscle Millennium. But the Kinniku Buster can be pulled off in real life, I remeraber reading about a wrestler in Mexico that used the Kinniku Buster.

A script would have helped. Have Mantaro get dominated for the first half, before coming back with a win in the second. Played straight, it was just flat. Reality can't pull off the dramatic staging seen in the cartoons and comics.
