I've just heard that Bob Hope has died at the age of 100.

I used to enjoy watching some of the "Road to" films and others such as "The Cat and the Canary", (on TV I may add) when I was younger, so I may I be one of the first to pay a tribute to him.
He was born in Eltham, SE London, as some people may know.

I seem to remember that at benefit night for Bob Hope, about 10 years ago in London, Michael Caine made an empassioned speech, where he said that he was only able to get into performing as a result of Bob Hope. The story went that a young boy from South East London was, through some grant or aid or theatre, supported by Bob Hope, given his first break (or training) and went on to build a career that otherwise could not have happened. He then said at the end of the story. "I was that boy".

Can anyone confirm my recollection?

The biggest credit to Bob, I can make is that he never stooped to using vulgar language in his jokes. (Okay he wouldn't have been allowed to in those days). He was a family entertainer.

Expect some of his films on bbc2 in the coming weeks!Did the beeb reshow that 100th birthday special again with bob monkhouse as a tribute?

I thought this was a post about Emerdale

Bob Hope - not Amos nor the blimp now presenting Youve been Framed

Bob Monkhouse is (to me anyway) likely to upstage Mr Hope if he does any tribute to him.
