Blur

But I like 'unfocused' lol. Anyway I dont expect yous to like it being 'proper' Blur fans and all. Basically the reason I liked it so much was because it sounded nothing like the Blur everyone knows, which i didnt like at all. I also have no idea what the fuck Im doing in this thread as I dont even like Blur apart from one album..

I don't know if I like Blur or not.

I think they're very overrated.

I know the old debate Noel vs Damon, but lyrics like "boys who like girls who like boys who who like girls" are erabarrassing. People say Damon is one of the best song writers around. I can't see why.

Don't get me wrong, I like a few of their stuff they've done. Song 2, No Distance Left To Run, Tender.

i heartily agree, unfortunately those days are long gone... I do appreciate how Blur (unlike 'the other band') evolved and broadened their sound, but 92-94 was their ideological/songwriting peak.
Their future as a recording group is only going to be conjecture at this point but I'm not getting my hopes up... the more I think about it there is a degree of truth to what that bloke from Suede said, a band is characterised by their heyday/creative peak... it's like the Smiths reforming, nobody wants that do they? But then again with Blur it's been more of an indefinite vacation rather than a proper break-up

Something seems to be going on with blur. The blur official website has gone and been replaced to a link to EMI and Graham Coxon website's forums are inaccesable and been replaced by a link to the same EMI page as the blur website! Either some hacking job or maybe they're preparing some news. A proper reunion is a bit unlikely as Damon is still touring with Gorillaz.

I also happen to think Country House is one of Blur's strongest tunes, it pretty much is the perfect pop song.

As for the rest of their back catalogue... as i've grown up and my taste has evolved i've kind of moved away from Britpop, i do tend to think blur are overrated these days. I much prefer their later stuff too. I think people have a soft spot for them because they are such a quintessentially english band.

*this news has really made my week

Same could be said about Oasis. Oasis are ok I think Noel is a good guitar player and a funny guy, but he's songwriter is so boring. I also find it pretty annoying that you can't bring up Blur without talking about Oasis, they sound almost nothing alike. And I don't know where all this Girls & Boys hate is coming from, it's called a catchy chorus. And if youre going to criticize it you could atleast get the lyrics right its "girls who are boys who like boys to be girls who do boys like they're girls who do girls like they're boys'.

Maybe Graham realized what a horrible ****in idea it was to leave Blur. I would be completely interested to hear what Blur would sound like after Damon has gone off on electric stuff for so long. I'm thinking a Gorillaz/classic Blur hybrid type thing...and that sounRAB really nice in my head. It neeRAB to happen.

Noel's songwriting is boring but he's a good guitarist? I think you have that the other way round, his guitar playing is average, I think he has good lyrics, some of it a bit football terracey.. they aren't the best band by a long long long way, but they're one that I grew up with and are one of my favourites.

Oh, and I brought Oasis and Blur up because I was reading a thread called Damon Albarn vs Noel Gallagher.

Girls and Boys is a fucking awful song. Katy Perry Hot and Cold is catchy, like many songs, doesn't mean it's any good. Although to reiterate I don't totally dislike Blur and I like Graham Coxon as a guitarist. :)

I've been in a Blur hole for the better part of three days. The songwriting on Parklife and Blur is just unbelievable. It's really hard to take a shower without belting out the chorus from "This is a Low." If anybody hasn't heard the Parklife-era demos yet, the demo of "Far Out" is damn near definitive, even better than the 'Beagle 2 Version.'
