bluetooth headset for ps3 won't work?

i'm using my boyfriend's blue tooth headset for the ps3 to play black ops with some friends, and it says that my headset is connected and shows the little speaker icon, but no one can hear me, and it doesn't show the little noise waves when i talk. i've tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it, but nothing's working, and my boyfriend's at work so i can't really ask him. :/
