Bluetooth headset for cell phone?

Is there a specific headset that I have to buy for my phone? or can I buy a generic headset? Is there a difference? How do I connect the headset to the phone?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated. :)
I have heard of cell phones causing brain cancer, does the bluetooth headset do the same thing? and why?
