Please tell me my ?200 phone can send files via bluetooth, because i cant see the option, thats just shocking if it wont

Is there a application that can?

At the moment, no the G1 can not do file sharing via bluetooth.

Hopefully, the cupcake update coming in a couple weeks will take care of this issue.

yeah... at the moment you cant bluetooth files... but if you have unlimited texts then you can just text a file to your buddies... that what im doing in the mean time (of waiting for cupcake)

Yes. Most carriers (if not all) now have SMS and MMS as one shared message plan. it is not uncommon to hear someone refer to a MMS message as a text or sms message.

Cant use messaging, as im wanting to send the files to my laptop, suppose i could email them or ftp them on the wifi.

Android really is an incomplete OS, things like this are very fundemental IMO. Its ironic how my old k750i can do something like this, i prefer its camera too. Still, daren't moan on here too much, many of you love it, and its true what they say; "Love is blind"

Yes because new phones aren't sold every day are they!

Well I've only had my G1 for 4 days and found out about the file sharing via bluetooth issue a day after purchase. It is a disadvantage but being a former blackberry user, the G1 has many other things my blackberry didn't. Not to mention over the air updates which will hopefully include file sharing via bluetooth. Over all the G1 is a great phone!

Watch what you say....if anything blame it on the CURRENT lack of capabilities of the G1 from being rushed out for the Christmas season before it was ready....as a result a lot of things were left out. There are other Android devices that come out the box with this feature.

Thank Android for giving us the ability to fix this problem with updates for us G1 users.

I personally don't see the big deal. Just plug it into the USB & charge it at the same time.

How often do you really want to send a file to someone else on their phone?

OK, I guess that is uncalled for, just because I don't doesn't mean others don't.

For people that do use this functionality, can you please enlighten me to why? I can't see anything, but I'm sure there must be a reason.

Why do you use a mobile instead of a wired phone? Why do you use wifi instead of ethernet. Bluetooth is designed to get rid of wires, its more convenient to have the functionality than to carry the wire around with me, its a pain in the arse.

If thats true i take it back, i now blame the bloke who made the stupid decision to release the handset half finished.

Ready to be enlightened? People at conferences, OFTEN (this includes every electronics show I've been to, gaming shows, etc.) want to swap personal contact info -- like electronic business cards. I always used Bluetooth for this. Until now, of course... just another drool, drool G1 factor. There is zero excuse for this omission.

And, in case you haven't read their sound reasoning behind being... behind:

FrostWire works a lot better, of course it's been almost two years after that last post on this thread.

It works over Wifi both on a local network (many androids in the same room) and over the internet (many androids all over the world)

Check it out, the app is free and has no ads, nags or spyware.
