Bluetooth dongle for Nokia - Quality matters?

Ive bought a generic bluetooth 2.0 dongle a while ago and had spotty connection with my E61 and mouse

A friend of mine has a IBM with integrated bluetooth and it seemed to work perfectly (however, I didnt test it extensively like I did with my dongle).

What Im wondering if is the bluetooth unstability is caused by the technology itself or the quality of the product.

Here are problems I frequently had with my generic dongle (PLEASE NOTE : these problems are random occurences, not constant)

- E61 won't get detected
- Mouse is jerky and slows down, then kicks back in correctly
- Devices are detected, but can't scan/use services (Nokia PC Suite,dial-up, Serial, etc)
- Connections don't re-establish after coming out of standby (laptop), need to restart bluetooth software
- Bluetooth software just plain crashes.

This is when using both Bluesoleil and Widcomm's latest drivers. So it's not a driver issue in my opinion. As well as it isn't a PC issue as these problems are consistent over different PCs and after clean windows XP installations.

So what would you suggest? What dongle product would you recomment?

your title is a bit funny coz, you cant use a bt dongle on nokia, the dongle is for the pc...

anyways, i understand what you are saying...

not all bt dongles are the same, and in addition, windows xp impelementation of bt sucks big time...

are you using xp sp2??? if yes, is it a slip-stream upgrade or is your xp copy came with sp2???

have you read the following MS support right upS, link below???

my copy of XP came with SP2. I do slipstream a LOT of stuff into it though.

The Bluesoleil and Widcomm drivers do work. However windows XP imbedded drivers won't recognize my dongle, so those two links are not applicable.

I guess my title was a little misleading I meant to ask about which dongle to use on a PC to connect to my nokia. I was trying to make this thread relevant to the forum The bluetooth forum isnt too frequented and its always about headsets

well, then it is most likely the bt dongle it self... i have an MSI BT dongle and it works liek a charm, but it is an old version BT V 1.1 so it does not do multiple connection, i just bought lately a cheap bt dongle with BT 2.0+EDR and it simply sucks, my old msi still rules...

I use a Bluetake USB dongle that works well with my 6230b. It comes with (older) Bluesoleil software too. It is the BT v1.2 dongle, and when I get a new phone I plan on upgrading to one their newer v2.0 dongles.

so the dongle quality matters eh? Figures.

I guess I wont buy a generic as replacement.

Bluetooth has brought me a lot of frustration. Never works when you need it :|

This is what I have.

If I had seen that rating before, id have bought something else.

Im gonna try another brand, even if it means 1.2 bluetooth (no use for 2.0 as of yet. Probably dont want to depend more on bluetooth as it is anyways)

The quality of one bluetooth device can greatly effect the performance of another. My 6230 sounds much better through the same headset than my Z600. A lot of people are probably discouraged because they had a bad experience with bluetooth due to the quality of their device(s), which is unfortunate.
