Blue Ray Recemendations

I suggest you visit dvdbeaver.com - a great comparison resource for the exact genres you cite.

The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue presently stanRAB out by miles on my 'temptation' list.

A 35 year old Spanish zombie film made on the cheap is hardly going to blow your mind as demo material is it? And he'll have to import it

However , like you the region free US disc is on my list to get too.

For demo material try The Dark Knight or one of the recent Bond films.

Some of the older titles that have been restored brilliantly and put more modern releases to shame include:

Braveheart
Dr. No
From Russia with Love
Goldfinger
The Italian Job (1969)
Zulu
The Prisoner

These have got some eye-popping visuals and look like they were shot yesterday.

For more recent ones, try:

I, Robot
Casino Royale
Valkyrie
Star Trek (2009)
Hot Fuzz
King Kong (2005)
The Dark Knight
Lost

These have great transfers and are a definite step-up from DVD. Enjoy. :)

Watchmen is also amazing looking on Blu-Ray.

But to really show off your nice new TV, although not a genre you suggested, you should really check out Cars, the Pixar release, or Wall-E. They look simply stunning.
Nonentity was pretty much spot-on with the list given though.

I have a huge DVD collection, but so far I've only bothered to buy 2 Blu-Rays and I think both were great choices: Dark Knight and Star Trek. The special effects on both, particularly Star Trek, are greatly enhanced by the Blu-Ray technology.

Actually i have seen screencaps from the Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue and it looks amazing. I wouldn't even suggest James Bond to anyone. Oh god just thinking about it riles me up. If your gonna go for blu ray go for something like The Dark Knight or one of the Disney/Pixar movies like Cars or Wall-E.

I have had a quick look at Its A Wonderful Life on Blu-Ray and its amazing.

A few years ago a colorised version was released on VHS Video and it looked ok, although it was soft focus and the colors were smudgy in some scenes.

On the blu-ray however, the colors are much sharper, with greater detail, and it looks brilliant!!

Will watch this classic movie later in the week.

If you like Animations, definitely try WALL.E, saw that on blu ray and it was sublime, same for Coraline.

I'm hijacking again, I'm thinking of getting The Red Shoes(classic film, not the Asian flm with the same title) on blu ray, does anyone know if blu ray does it justice?

No Country For Old Men looks sublime on Blu-Ray. As does Wall-E.

The Dark Knight started off well in full screen but then switched to lesser letterbox quality after the first 15 minutes.

You're not exactly being fair on The Dark Knight Blu Ray there. The Imax scenes (of which there are many throughout the film, not just the first 15 minutes) look absolutely amazing, but when it switches to letterbox it still looks really good.
