Blue line in my photos?

Okay so I bought a Nikon D40 from someone on craigslist, and after taking multiple photos with it, I notice a thin blue line in each of my photos. The blue line's visibility depended on the photo's colors and settings. So my question is this, why is the thin blue line there?
Is it damage in the lens or the camera itself? And how can I fix it?

Your D40 was dropped at some point in it's history and the sensor array damaged.


Always, always completely check-out a used digital camera before you buy it.
