Blu-Ray outselling HD-DVD

The PS3 would be nice as a bluray player but sony are delaying the software upgrade for the console.

I would wait for version 2 with the added software update. The update is to allow the bluray player to upscale DVD's to 1080p (not 1080i which is really only 540p in proper terms) which is classed as true HD.

The bluray players can do this but sony are saving the software at launch so come christmas re advertise with new software to improve figures again.
 
Hmm, yes and no. The real question is when will whichever format really challenge DVD's, and i don't see that happening for a long time.

Although superior, its only when the cost of the boxes really comes down that people will make the move. For the majority of people that's when the cost will be in the
 
Really nothing matters until there are cheap players, good selection of films and shops (HMV *cough*) stop ripping people off people of new technology.
I got the HD DVD add on for the 360 from play last month and I love it, watching films is so much more enjoyable with HD. Aeon Flux was great.

Betamax was ripping the crap out of VHS for the first two years and that won didn't it.lol

I don't think the PS3 will do much TBH, it is not a great console and people are finally starting to see that.
You can get the same thing but with HDDVD from the 360 for a bit less, upscaler, HD player and a 3rd gen player.

I think it is very open ATM, like I was thinking about not getting HD because of star wars but then I thought it just does not matter because it will be ages (2008+) before that comes out.
The only film I'm a bit gutted about is Casino Royal and the bond films but I can live without them.
 
Apparently the American "adult" entertainment industry is going with HD-DVD, not Blu-ray.

More influential than you might think, it's what made VHS beat the superior Betamax.
 
As has been posted elsewhere,the success of adult material had absolutely nothing to do with the success of VHS in the UK.

Even in the US where porn was actually available Betamax was around for 20 years so it wasn't really knocked out that quick.
And it was around even longer in Japan.

Most US porn producers had settled on Blu-Ray but as Sony's influence made it impossible for them to find any plants that would press porn they have jumped ship to HDDVD,although Vivid (IIRC) have found a single company willing to press BR porn ,so Debbie Does Dallas is on the way.

However with BR players double the price of HDDVD,and on the manufacturing side BR costs 4 times as much to author and 3 times as much in replication one has to wonder what future Blu-Ray has.

The only thing in its favour is that Sony have spent time buying up movie libraries and studios so they can withhold key titles from HDDVD.

Its a bit of a cheat and I doubt it will work longterm
 
1080i is interlaced pictures of 540
the p stanRAB for progressive scan so one image

p is always the stronger format as you can not get ghosting and will be the choice of future HD
ie 1080p (current) to 2160p QFHD (japan) which is Quad Full High Definition.
So the only HD resolution to use interlacing is 1080i. Bit pointless.
 
Well that just backs up my point further. We know 1080P is the best but your saying 1080i is 540p. How is that when you have just said 1080i is the same quality as 720p. 1080i also looks better than 720p for a few things if i remember rightly.
 
Fine. Don't start a flame war though . I think I remember your name off somewhere going mental at someone.
Here are my reasons:
  • Crappy online - It is like a 90's PC game, have to meet in the game, no guide functions like the 360, no over the top chatting etc
  • focused to hard on things unnecessarily - Like take the Blu ray it does not help the games why do they need it, the cell processor works bad for the first line of games and producers don't get it but yet they have left online gaming and the UI to the side. :confused: :confused:
  • Bad production - they have made mistakes after mistakes. Adding blu ray for a start it delayed the console for ages, it bumped up the price and worst of all it does nothing to help the games.
  • The way it was released - Britain and EU waiting for ages, Japan getting a price that is nearly half price

Well all them points can be disproved but ive done it so many times im not going to do it again. Thats your opinion, the fact that its sold more than the PS2 and is on target to reach the sales the 360 has in the same time frame says otherwise.
