I think that Billy in The Departed was a better person than Danny in Blood Diamond. However, I got the feeling that Danny finally stopped being selfish when he was injured and couldn't make it up the mountain with Solomon and his son. He realized that Solomon would be much better off with the diamond than he would be. Danny was a bad self centered person but I felt somewhat that he did redeem himself by giving the diamond to Solomon.

I bet Leo is probably prouder of The Departed because he has ties with Martin Scorsese and the movie did well at the box office and got more critical acclaim than Blood Diamond did. I'm still suprised that Blood Diamond only received 1 Golden Globe nomination.

Yeah--when I was doing my post above--I thought about mentioning that Billy was a much smarter person...but was he really? Danny doesn't come across as a dumb person--he's actually pretty smart. I'm thinking that Danny is much more "street/people smart" as opposed to Billy who I believe they said he scored like a 1400 or something like that on his SAT's making him more book smart.

And I completely agree--Billy was a real human being. He had feelings and wasn't all about himself as opposed to Danny who was definitely a Me person---no matter what happened in the ending, he was still all about himself really.

I wonder too which one he likes better---I would assume The Departed based solely on the director and working with Jack (who...even though I can't stand him..is a legend in Hollywood).

But I bet he liked the experience of working on Blood Diamond more--he fell in love with Africa and its people and he and Djimon have such a huge respect for eachother

I know. :(

Djimon lost Best Supporting Actor to Alan Larkin from 'Little Miss Sunshine'
Leo lost Best Actor to Forest Whitaker from 'The Last King of Scotland'

Yeah, you're right. This movie did show that good things do happen to good people even when the situation itself looks really bad. I thought Billy in The Departed was a much nicer and more caring person than Danny in Blood Diamond. Billy probably would have outsmarted Danny.
I wonder which movie Leo thought he was better in: Blood Diamond or The Departed?

I just finished this on DVD. Pretty uneven film. Sometimes it was great, other times too cheesy. Overall, I liked it.

I have to admit by the end, I had no sympathy for the character of Dia so that whole subplot angered me. He's a little boy in deadly circumstances but he lost me when he pointed the gun and his father.

As per every year I retroactively believe Djimon should've won the Oscar. I wanted Mark to win but I was also cheering for Djimon because I've liked him since Gladiator. Now I saw Blood Diamond and I can't believe he lost.

Yeah...but it also says if you are a good person you can also succeed. Soloman was always good and he wound up being the real winner of the movie.

I think The Departed character (Billy Costigan Jr) would have won in a fight. I think he was a more desperate person than Danny (well aside from his insane rant while he killed the baboon) in different ways--and that could really help in a fight.

this was movie.. :thud: amazing!! I didn't really like the first 15 minutes but after that omg, I don't even have words for it, Leo and Djimon were so great! wonderful acting :D

I think it made the story better that Leo was injured because he knew in his heart that Solomon and his family needed the diamond more than he did.
I just wonder who would have won in a fight: Leo's character in Blood Diamond or The Departed?

This movie had a really good message. It showed how bad we as people will go to get what we want.

I think this movie was beyond amazing. One of the best I've ever seen. The violence was a little rough, but it needed to be. Leo stated in an interview once that they actually held back a little in the movie from how it really was, so I understand that.

Leo and Djimon both had outstanding phenomenal performances!

Great movie! :D

Yeah if he hadn't been injured who knows what he would have done. He was capable to do just about anything. I still wish he hadn't tried to redeemed himself. Would have been more interesting and less cliche to watch him just be an a$$ throughout the entire movie.

I saw this tonight and this movie was pretty good. It's definately worthy of Golden Globe nominations it's received. It's a shame that Djimon was not nominated. I bet that he will be nominated for an Oscar for this.
This movie is really compelling and makes you think about how far people will go for something. Did anyone think that Leo's character redeemed himself at the end of the movie?

I liked this movie very much. A little too violent but nonetheless a really good movie. Leonardo di Caprio's acting was pretty good, imo.

Leo is a double nominee!! Well deserved I might add!

I haven't heard anything on Djimon yet--I'll look around

I really wanna watch that movie. The trailer's pretty exciting.
There's so many different critics, some people say the movie was good, some people say the movie sucked. I think I'm just gonna have to find out on my own.
Unfortunately, I don't think the movie hit the theatres of my hometown yet.

It was so sad to see how the war affects the children. Watching the brainwashing and seeing how the children turned was just heartbreaking. And scary!

I'm excited for the nominations tomorrow!
