Blonde/Pre-blonde hair questions?

Nitrous?

So, I have virgin naturally medium-light brown hair, blue eyes and a fair-medium skin tone and it just doesn't look right somehow. Even though I'm not extremely pale and tan fairly easily my hair still manages to look too dark for me. When my hair gets sun bleached in the summer it looks a bit better but still completely washes me out. I had golden blonde hair until I was about 4 and everyone agrees it should've stayed that way, haha. So I'm taking the plunge and going blonde. (Sorry for the mini-autobiography)

This will be done 100% professionally so don't worry about that. I just have a few questions:

- Should my hair be freshly washed before I go to the salon or should I lay off of the washing for a while before?

- I'm not going platinum blonde, just a nice natural looking golden blonde colour, but light enough that I'll have to have it bleached too. How long approximately can I expect the whole transitional process to take?

- What should I do in the time beforehand to get my hair into a really good condition?

- Should I get a full head of colour or layer highlights/lowlights? What generally looks better?

- The last one isn't really a care question, but do people think badly of "fake" blondes? A (natural blonde) friend of mine told me rather bluntly that I might as well just get implants and ship myself off to the Playboy Mansion while I'm at it, because everybody will think I'm trashy. Even though I'm staying within the more natural range.

Anyway, sorry for the really long question, haha. I tried to streamline it but that's not really possible for me..

Thanks for the answers if I get any. :D
