BEST. EPISODE. EVER! - Transformers Animated
Transformers Animated was the first Transformers cartoon made specifically for English-speaking audiences since Beast Machines in 2000. Premiering in 2007 and bearing a art design radically unlike any iteration before it, this series ran a solid 42 episode run across three seasons. Within that time it became one of the most cherished and beloved entries of the franchise, and made its eventual end for Transformers Prime all the more painful. Filled with great characters, great story, great use of humans, and a great use of the lore that came before it, Animated is both a love letter to the older generation, and a great call to the younger generation to hope aboard the Transformers wagon.

Now we here at rabroad wish to pay homage to this rather endearing tale with a look at what some of us think are its best episodes ever. Neo Yi, HellCat, and Juu-kuchi have come up with their final choices on the episodes that make Transformers Animated... well.... ANIMATED!

So without further ado...

In my opinion it was the episode in which Bulkhead tells off Wasp ("You may not be a traitor, but you were NEVER a good bot!"). This is the best TF series for that scene alone, in my opinion.

That was a good Bulkhead moment. So much so that it contrasts with his attitude when he keeps trying to convert the Constructicons to the good side in "Three's a Crowd". This is after he's at least realized that no, these guys aren't going to come back to the Autobot side or at least he should have realized at this point - the duo nearly got themselves trapped/killed in a collapsing mine over oil! I may be biased, I don't like the Constructicons, but it was an already facepalm moment in a long list of "ARGH" from that episode ("Three's a Crowd" is my least favorite TFA episode).

Human Error parts 1 and 2. Probably the best "human versions of non-human designs" I've seen, and the fight with Soundwave was just amazing.

Based purely on the fun factor, I'd say Human Error is probably the best pair of episodes in Animated. While it doesn't have much character development (perhaps outside of Sari) and is rather inconsequental in the long run, the entire scenerio is just incredibly enjoyable, and yet manages to somehow be less wacky and more consistent than the entirety of G1.

You guys were right to put both Megatron Rising and Thrill of the Hunt on the list, as they really do a lot to develop all of the featured characters. However, my personal favorite episode has to be Mission Accomplished, if only because it features one of the greatest animated montages of all time: Megatron killing Starscream, over and over again. :D

I want to add "Garbage In, Garbage Out" in that list of "fun factor". That episode makes me laugh every single time I watch it. It's absolutely wonderful. Wreck-Gar is hilarious, Looney Tunes in his own way while fitting in the TFAverse. The episode even doubles up by giving Ratchet more character development.

I'm going to be a fangirl and add Prowl to that list. Much more subtle on his end, but Prowl's fascination for humans is expanded here after gaining appreciation for them after Fanzone impressed him back in Season One ("Survival of the Fittest"). A very nice throwback. Also, human Prowl and the baby - adorable and gut-wrenching with its foreshadowing ("I'm just thankful to be alive in any form.") Oh, you cheeky writers.

That said, while I adore both "Human Error" and easily consider it one of the crown jewel of Season Three (which, unfortunately, is my least favorite season), I honestly think this is something that could have been cut to just one episode. The first part already structured it very well: Autobots become humans, they explore their new bodies, they find out it's all an illusion, and at the last stretch, they could have stopped Virtual!Soundwave, get back to reality and whoop the real one, too.

The second one just feels like an unnecessary extension. Yeah, it gave Sari much needed camera focus after being absent for much of Season Three prior, but hers is a story that needed to focus on her robotic half, not whether she is equipped to be leader. Also, even if they went that direction, I honestly think the Substitute Autobots could have carried a separate, unrelated episode on their own. They each interact wonderfully and adds a lot of humor to the episode (like I said in the list, TFA is really, really good with character interaction) and heck, it's the only time I ever liked one of the Constructicons. Either way, the second half was unneeded in the grand scheme of things that Season 3's list of unanswered questions should have worked on instead. Cancellation, what are ya going to do?

In my opinion, I think that Transformers Animated, along with Beast Wars, has to be one the best Transformers series ever made.

As for some of my favorite episodes, I'll have to go with "Survival of the Fittest" and "Black Friday", due to their "fun factor".

In "Survival of the Fittest", you get to see Swoop and Snarl transform into their robot modes, for the first time. The expressions that Colossus Rhodes and the two mutants had on their faces indicated "Oh crap, we're going to get our butts kicked!", when the Dinobots were going to attack them with their flaming weapons. :D

In "Black Friday", it was amusing seeing Optimus and Grimlock working together.

As you can tell, I'm a fan of the Dinobots, especially Grimlock! :anime:

Aside from Grimlock, my other favorite characters from the series would have to be Bulkhead and Prowl. I like Bulkhead for his personality, and Prowl for his ninja skills and design.
