Blog Talkback: Toons of the 2000s: Top 5 Disney Animated Television Series

Great and unpredictable choices. Also, The Huntsman's reasoning for everything was spot on. I love Fillmore! and I'm really glad it made the list. I'm glad that Kim Possible wasn't the obvious first place but it was given to a great underrated toon like Weekenders.
 
I don't understand that list at all, Phineas and Ferb was just stupid. Kim Possible and The Weekenders were not special at all, the basic plot lines have been done many times before.

How did you completely miss Oban Star-Racers and Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!? produced by Jetix, which is still part of Disney.

Oban Star-Racers was the best series produced recently, and SRMTHFG! was a very well done action series, with on-going story.

At least you gave credit to Fillmore! and Teacher's Pet, two unique and well done series.
 
It's good to see Teacher's Pet in this list. I seen one episode and it's pretty cool.

At my opinion, that's not a surprise to see Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb at this list because of their marketing success but both shows have great appeals. P&F have a solid humor and KP is a real top-notch combination of simple cartoon style with Anime influence.

Yes i wish to see Kim Possible in realistic look because the characters designs is very solid and well organised even if the plots is often reused at repetitions, but it can be hard to re-imaginated her like that if the original cartoon works perfectly.
 
I never watched any of those shows. The only recent animated Disney shows I watched with any regularity was the Lilo and Stitch series and House of Mouse, and neither of those made the list.
 
Wow, I'm really surprised by all the negative things people here have to say about Teacher's Pet. That series was probably Disney's last really creative and well written series.

Did nobody here watch it or remember it well enough? I can't blame you for the latter, as the show hasn't been on TV since 2004 or 2005.
 
I'm extremely pleased that "Kim Possible" made the list, but I would have put it higher than #3. To me, the fact that Kim is an extremely smart, extremely talented individual who can get out of any jam, no matter how dire the situation, is what makes her so endearing. Sure, you know she'll always win, but the excitement comes from how she'll win. It's the same reason why Bugs Bunny is such a great character.
 
The Weekenders and Teacher's Pet were both a pleasant surprise. I've always loved both of those shows and I'm glad they're on the list. Teacher's Pet especially, that show is really underrated. Phineas and Ferb seemed a little high on the list, but I still like that show. Never got into KP or Filmore
 
I was glad to see that Phineas & Ferb and Teacher's Pet made the list. Kim Possible I have yet to see, and I've never heard of Fillmore, or The Weekenders, so I must be missing out on a couple of great series.
 
Never cared for what I saw of Phineas and Ferb, and didn't watch Teacher's Pet much, so would probably replace those two with (in some order):

- House of Mouse: If this series counts (not sure about the cutoff points for some of its segments). Think it was a creative use of the Disney characters, plus the individual segments actually shows Mickey as funny (versus being some vapid smiling guy). A show that gave us "Big Bad Wolf Daddy" can't be all bad. ;-)

- Dave the Barbarian: Another funny series, though seems like nobody but myself watched it during its short run. Of note is that the show featured a lot of the voice artists from various 90s Warner Bros. shows (Tress MacNeille using her Dot Warner voice for Dave's sister Fang, Dave voiced by the person who did Montana Max in Tiny Toons, etc.).

Honorable mention to "Buzz Lightyear"'s TV-cartoon, which had its amusing moments (particularly XR and XR's evil robot double XL).

Of the shows on the list, I did like "The Weekenders", "Kim Possible" (mostly), and "Fillmore!". Guessing for the latter, those not old enough to recall 70s cop shows (Starsky and Hutch, etc.) might miss out on some of Fillmore's references/shout outs to shows of that era in its writing style.

I gotta say that I was a tad dismayed to find "Fillmore" ranked below "Kim Possible" (entertaining, but maddeningly uneven)...then I saw "The Weekenders" in the number one spot and my faith was restored. Nice list.
 
Even though I love the list, I do agree what others say about House of Mouse, it was one of my favorite cartoons of this entire decade. They did an amazing job of mixing all of the classic Disney characters together and implementing the Mickey Mouse Works short films.
 
Glad to see Teacher's Pet on the list. It was a horribly underrated cartoon. I have to admit it was hard for me to watch at times due to Gary Baseman's eyebleed-inducing art style, but it was an incredibly smartly-written show, surprisingly smarter than it looked.

Glad to see the Weekenders getting some love. I was surprised to see it snag the #1 spot on the list as opposed to Kim Possible or Phineas and Ferb, but I'm glad to see it. Another smartly written and fun show.
 
I agree with the majority of this list and I think that it's well-thought out too. I don't remember seeing much of Teacher's Pet, but I remember liking the idea of a dog wanting to become a boy. The episodes I did see were pretty fun too. I've seen a few episodes of Filmore, but it honestly didn't seem that interesting to me. Maybe it helped that I took it as being too serious.

I'm glad that both Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb on the list as well. I'm not sure if I would put Phineas and Ferb above Kim Possible though. I agree that it does top it in terms of humor and clever dialogue. As for Kim being perfect, that actually never bothered me. It definitely would have been nice to see her struggle more and be depicted as a more realistic character, instead of being a Mary-Sue kind of character, but I always just took her abilities as a fact of the show that shouldn't be questioned too much.

I remember watching a few episodes of The Weekenders and it felt like a pretty cool series. I agree that they handled the situations for the characters in a realistic fashion, which made the series more enjoyable. I think that it's a nice choice for the number one position.
 
I rented it right after it came out on DVD, does that count? :P

I loved Dave the Barbarian too, I think it deserved a spot on the list.
 
Well, i never actually gave Teachers Pet a chance (unfortunately, maybe i should check it out sometime), so i cant comment on it.

But the other 4 shows definitely deserve their spots.

I haven't seen a lot of Phineas and Ferb, but from i have seen i think its a very clever show, some of the humor dint click with me, but i liked the character interactions, the mad scientist dude and the blue Platapus thing especially.

Not much i can say about Kim Possible other than it was amazing in everything it did, especially the characters, they were great. It dint really bother me that Kim was perfect, cause Ron was a good foil for it. Not sure i dig them getting together at the end though, but i guess its better than Kim ending up with that Josh Mankey guy from the beginning of the series (other than his cool hair there was nothing cool about him). My favorite character was Shego, she was so awesome.

I use to watch reruns of The Weekenders religiously when i first discovered it (which was at the same time i discovered Pepper Ann, which i also watched reruns of religiously). For a show where they just talked most of the time it held my interest surprisingly well, it was greatly written and really felt real. I can see it being #1.

Anyway, Fillmore! has got to be my favorite show on that list. First i have to disagree with what the blog said, initially i had no idea what this was supposed to be parodying and I still liked it. Yeah, i thought it took itself way to seriously, but that was the thing that was the most fun to watch. Perfect blend of action and comedy and drama too IMO, the plots were amazing, left me thinking for hours after many episodes. And of course, as always, i love the characters, most of the one shot villains were surprisingly well developed in those single episodes.
