Blog Talkback: Toons of the 2000s: Top 5 Cartoon Network Originals

That list seems fair enough, though I might have put the choices in a slightly different order. I think Chowder, KND, and Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy deserve an honorable mention at the least. Personally, having not really seen the Secret Saturdays, I would have switched it with Grim.
 
The list seem decent. I would put Chowder instead of Megas XLR. What did that series do to be in number 4?

And I know Samurai Jack is a good series but number 2... I'd place in 4th.

The Secret Saturdays is a good choice along with Ed, Edd N Eddy and Foster's.
 
No KND?! What gives? Okay other than that I guess the list is alright. Samuri Jack has a nice artistic quality, but I found the show kind of boring. I have only seen Secret Saturdays and Magas XLR a couple of times, and they aren't really my kind of shows.
 
Well i'm happy that Megas XLR and The Secret Saturdays made it to the Top 5, i see some prefer Grim Adventures and Chowder and i like those cartoons too but i think it's fair that all of the CN originals are cool(except some of course like Squirrel Boy and My Gym Partner is a Monkey) and it's hard to pick just one of them to be on the list.

Anyway i like all of the top 5 tho it's weird that Ben 10 didn't made it on the list, thought it would be on first place but still with Megas XLR, The Secret Saturdays, Samurai Jack and Ed, Edd n Eddy I'm happy.
 
My main fault on this list is the lack of Flapjack. It's easily one of the most creative, well-animated, funniest, and heartwarming shows to ever come out of CN Studios.
 
Well, I can honestly say I didn't expect Foster's to be #1 on this list. The summary of the show is a great summation of why I liked this series in the first place. The first season was pretty standard stuff, but by the time the second season came around, they had found their style of humor. I loved just how quick-witted the dialogue is, and the premise of situations made worse by misunderstandings and fear just made the episodes quite absurd. The huge focus on side characters near the end was a blow to the series, but overall, it is one of the strongest series from this decade.

The lack of Chowder and Flapjack is a bit shocking, but understandable considering how recent those two are compared to the rest of the list (other than Secret Saturdays). No Grim Adventures is quite sad though.
 
I love the series as well. It was a difficult decision to make. Perhaps I could have made the decision less painful by including an honorable mentions list, but frankly, I’m not too fond of honorable mentions. I feel that the choices that are made have more meaning if one has to deny one worthy show a spot on the list in order for another to gain it. However, that doesn’t mean that the shows that failed to make the list are bad. In fact, there were simply too many good shows.

“Ben 10”, “Chowder”. “Codename: Kids Next Door”. “Courage, The Cowardly Dog”. “Sheep In The Big City”. “The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy”. “The Marvelous Misadventures Of Flapjack”. “The Powerpuff Girls”. Selecting five out of all of those, including the ones that actually did make the list, is no easy feat. Cartoon Network may have had a few years of mediocrity but the competition was incredibly fierce. There are even some worthy shows that I didn’t mention above.

Perhaps with more time we would have come to different conclusions. Such is the nature of things when you are dealing with so many worthy shows. But the good thing about these lists is that they can foster discussion and people are free to make up their own minds about what should be the top five. The five that were ultimately decided upon may not be everybody’s top five, and I’m sure several of my colleagues can attest to that, but they were all top-notch shows.
 
I'd switch Ed, Edd and Eddy with Fosters. Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends started out strong and stumbled towards the end. IMHO, Ed, Edd and Eddy only get better as it went on.

And while everyone seems to be upset at Flapjack not being included I say it's too soon to include something that new. I don't think it's earned the status as an all-time great yet.
 
Agreed, I thought that Fosters lost steam sometime at the end of Season 4, but I still like Fosters

All in all I thought it was a good list, Secret Saturdays, MegasXLR, Eds, Samurai Jack and Fosters make a pretty decent list.
 
“Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends” did stumble a bit during its run and a lot of people believe that some of the characters became a bit too annoying, and that’s not even mentioning Cheese. However, when the series was firing on all cylinders, it was one of the best things on television. Destination: Imagination was the best example of this, as stated in the article, but there were plenty of other spectacular episodes. Such made those occasional misfires seem less significant in the grand scheme of things.
 
I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Megas XLR made the Top 5 list. It's to see that others besides myself, Silverstar and Rho recognize the awesomeness that was Megas.

Also, I understand why some would be disappointed by Chowder and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack not making the list, but as much as I enjoy both shows, I don't feel that either of them are deserving of a place in a "Greatest of All Time" list, because a) both series are a tad too recent to be included here and, b) Chowder in particular has only had 1 really good season; it's 1st season. Afterward, the episodes just haven't been as good. The title character himself went from being whimsical, naive and silly to being flat out dopey and clueless, and the rest of the main cast each seemed to lose many of their characteristics save for the really base ones. Panini's crush on Chowder went from being a benign flirtation to a dangerous obsession. Mung lost much of his earlier narcissistic charm, etc.
 
I think Billy & Mandy should be in Secret Saturday's place or at least get an honorable mention along with a few other shows amd EEnE should be #1.
It managed to be the longest running Cartoon Network show and it unlike most shows it's quality in humor didn't go down.
 
Megas XLR and Samurai Jack are some of the coolest cartoons i have ever seen, they totally deserve this top 5 things. Ed ed and Eddy is a given, itd be a travesty if it wasn't in it.
 
Samurai Jack should have been higher. :anime: It was a very different show compared to what was airing at the time. I remember watching the first episode and going "WOW".
 
I was kind of surprised that Foster's was #1. I was expecting it to be, after seeing Megas at #4 (hey, it at least made it to the top 5) either PPG or Kids Next Door.
