What's my pick? Re: Cutie Honey. Actually hinted at being licensed a few times, but nothing's ever come of it. Lame.

Sounds like one can't go wrong with Michiko to Hatchin, though, if you're a Champloo fan. Which I am.
 
Dennou Coil was one of the best series around that NO ONE was talking about. If it involved kids, and none of them were moe lolis with frequent panty shots, its like they didnt want to talk about it. *sigh* I keep hoping someone licenses it. It's really a quality work.
 
Don't get your hopes up, it's nothing like Champloo since Watanabe only did the music for the show and unfortunately that's the only good thing about it. Kaiba should have been on this list and the only title I agree with was Denno Coil.
 
One 2009 show that isn't necessarily up to par with the list but still needs to come here is Guin Saga. It wouldn't call it exceptional but it's a solid show adapting a legitimate heroic fantasy series, and there's at least possible potential for more episodes and more of the books being released in the U.S.

I first heard about it awhile ago, but I can't believe I went several years without discovering Twin Spica. It really is excellent, offering some fine writing and genuine originality at a time when many fans feel that too many anime are becoming too similar to each other.
 
If I recall wasn't their a U.S. trailer posted a while back before the anime began, it was dubbed and everything and released on the English website, so their may be some interest to bringing it over. But I was still dissappointed by the anime overall.
 
Yeah, I'm hoping that the early English trailer is a positive sign that the show is being actively pitched. I'll agree that the anime doesn't overwhelmingly impress, but it does seem to have a few good moments. It also gets points for expanding the story more and more, eventually being about more than just Guin's travels. It's no Lodoss, but I can respect it.

Although really all I want is some subtitled DVD's. I think only Funimation has the guts/writers/cast to dub it, but if they haven't snagged it by now, they probably aren't. C'mon Sunrise/Tv Tokyo, experiment with legal downloads or print to order DVD's...

But have the group that's subbing it now sub the first half of the series for that - Viz really didn't do a good job at it :B
 
I'm still waiting for most of my favorite/like very much shows to be licensed - like Hime-chan no Ribbon, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, and Mahoujin Guru Guru. But with the industry in the state it's in, I'd say it's impossible now :(
 
Dennou Coil was supposed to have been picked up for NA release a few years ago, but apparently nothing came of it. It also coincided with the time the NA anime industry was going through a lot of changes, so perhaps whoever it was who considered picking it up changed their minds.
 
It does this too much perhaps, towards the later episodes its almost as if Guin is a background character (it turns into the Remus and Naris show), and its his own show.
 
I would like to second the vote for Moiyashimon aka Tale of Agriculture if for no other reason than to have the bacteria in plush form.
 
Spot on with the top pick for this category, guys! Dennou Coil should have been picked up by someone ages ago. The production values are excellent and the story is engaging and fairly light at times. I'm surprised nobody took a chance on it (esp Syfy, by now) just because of the Miyazaki-like character designs. Those who haven't seen it should. We've shown both Dennou Coil and Kemonozume in past years at METROCON. The others I'm not quite familiar with.
 
With anything shonen and popular, I don't think it's an issue of if but when actually.

With the niche, high-quality shows that share more an audience with Masterpiece Theater than Shonen Jump, an industry as worried about immediate commercial success as the current US localization industry is is an unfavorable place for these shows.
