Blog Talkback: Tex Avery, The Wacky World Of

I did watch this when younger, and even though I don't remember enjoying it, it too was just kinda 'there' for amusement. I also agree with the review that it's just 'nothing special' rather than terrible, and the characters are just unamusing rather than irritating.

However, I must spit it out that the theme is a gulity pleasure in my book.

I also remember enjoying this as a kid (the one or two episodes I saw, anyway) but, eek, this has not aged well. Those screenshots...

I seen that when it ran in 1997 but the jokes is not accurate as was Tex's cartoons legends. Also the little panda is look a pale knock off of Lantz's Andy Panda.

I remember when I was young living in South Africa, this show was a hit on the local kid's channel. And I enjoyed it for what it was: Silly cartoony romp, even though that kind of stuff was being done better elsewhere. A lot of the cartoon segments did feel like they didn't need to be there, since some were pretty doing the same thing, or didn't have much to go on.
Did love that opening though.

This show couldn't have less to do with Tex Avery. The animation and character designs are nothing like the professional look of Avery's cartoons (even amidst the wacky moments, they were well-drawn and stayed consistent), the music is nothing like Tex Avery's cartoons (Carl Stalling and/or Scott Bradley was replaced with generic '90s synthesized stuff), the skits and characters had nothing to do with Tex Avery, and the overall tone manages to give off a desperate "Look at how zany we are!" tone (while oddly feeling incredibly reserved at the same time) that Tex Avery's cartoons never did.

If this show were called something different, it wouldn't make any difference to the content. But adding Avery's name onto this completely misrepresents his work from the 30s-50s.

EDIT: Also, and I said this elsewhere, but that intro really would fit better with a hypothetical show called "The Wacky World of Bob Clampett". It really doesn't fit the Tex Avery style at all.

What the others said about this show.

I recall the ads for the show---in particular, one ad had a line stating "these characters are wanted in all 50 states... you can see why!"

(Pauses)

Insert your own punchline there, folks ;-)

I only saw one episode of this as a kid, and I only remember one where the Cowboy went through hell due to it being a pick your path episode, where all the negative ones won. I thought it was OK at the time, but I'm pretty sure that I would have a different opinion by now.

The theme song is catchy though, I'll admit it. I caught myself humming to it.

I used to watch this back in the mid-90s before the Fox Kids block started. I used to think Tex Avery was the name of the cowboy and didn't realize it was referencing the artist until I got cable and started watching the Tex Avery Show. Needless to say, there was a huge difference in approaches and humor between them.

It's been years since I've seen it though, so I have no clue whether its held up or not.

I recall seeing this cartoon in 1999 and 2000 on mornings before leaving for school. It isn't the worst show I've seen, but I still think the background music could've been better.

Ah yes, The Wacky World of Tex Avery. What a wacky world in deed...

...a wacky world of STUPIDITY!!

I mean, what was i thinking watching this as a kid? i actually enjoyed it, but i was just an impressionable, non-critical 8-year-old. Looking back on it now, i dont want to look back on it anymore.

After recollecting memories of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain (which i still think holds up to this day), i decided to give this a try. I had no idea how poorly written, poorly animated and poorly timed the gags were.

I give it an F...MINUS INFINITY!

Have a nice day:D

God I hated this show. It was such a waste of schedule and I hated that kind of show that suddenly poped up in the late 90s (Toonsylvania, Mad Jack the Pirate, I'm looking at you you giant pile of BORING!),

I remember watching a couple of episodes from this show years ago, but I can't say I really liked it. I realized it had nothing to do with the original creations of Tex Avery and the episodes weren't really that funny. Though I guess I'm lucky I don't really remember anything, I still kinda like the opening song.

I have to admit I never watched this show when it was on the air. I saw ads for it and it just looked like another "Look how wacky, zany, nutty and tooney we are!" shows which supposedly called back to the Golden Age of theatrical cartoons, which came out in the wake of Roger Rabbit, Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. In some areas it looked they were trying too hard and in others it looked like they weren't trying hard enough.

After reading up on The Wacky World of Tex Avery, it appears I made the right decision skipping this one.

I remember watching this show only because in my area it came on before Pokemon. I don't really remember thinking it was bad, but then again I think I was at an age where I really couldn't think a show was terrible.

When I first heard about this show in the '90s, I was under the assumption that the actual "Tex Avery Show" from CN was coming to local TV. My area didn't have CN at the time and I was thrilled to see some classic Tex Avery shorts.

Boy was I disappointed...

Man, that video was kind of misleading. Aren't openings usually a showcase of the show's animation at it's best? While the cartoon itself isn't breathtaking stuff, it's by no means terrible, and a huge step-up from...well...that.

Anywho, these ensemble cast cartoons can be kind of hit and miss as it is, and it seems to me that they were more interested in having as many characters as possible, rather than running with a few ideas and trying to develop them a bit more. The segments with that roman guy sound really pointless in particular. I mean, what's the hook there? Roman is revived in the future and is a frequent annoyance to some random dude? Sounds like the definition of filler.
