Today on the blog, we begin an overview of some notable anime in the Geneon library that are still up for the taking. As you will see below this is not a mere wish list; we know that multiple future license rescues will be happening in the future.

So, what do you want to see and why? I'll get a multiple-choice poll w/ some other choices up after part 2 is published. For reference, Speedy Boris posted a great and thorough list here near the end of last year. Discounting Chobits, Gun X Sword, Trigun, Kamichu and El Hazard (recently grabbed by Nozomi), and you've got what's left:
 
-Haibane Renmei
-Paranoia Agent
-Serial Experiments: Lain
-Texhnolyze

Those are really all that deserve to be saved and in Haibane Renmei and Lain's case, release the BD in the US. Kthnx.

Also, why include Funi-distributed properties like Kamichu? Also also, Le Portrait de Petit Cossette and Tsukihime were license-rescued by Sentai Filmworks.
 
Okay, so Genon has the rights to Sailor Moon S, and Super S, but not Stars? Does anyone have the rights to the last season of SailorMoon and will we ever see it on DVD here?
 
The Tenchi OVA's and Universe deserve to be rescued, simply because it isn`t fair that they never got a proper boxed set release, and the one no one likes or cares about, In Tokyo, did.
 
Since they got most of the Lupin III movies, I won't be surprised to see Funimation getting the 1977-80 tv series as well but I wonder if they'll redub it or keep it intact like the Slayers DVD set?
 
I want Lupin III. That's all. I remember enjoying that series on Adult Swim. Apparently they only aired one season of it, and I'd like to see the rest.
 
When it comes to "must rescue", my picks for titles on that list are Lain, the Tenchi titles, and Cardcaptor Sakura.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if Funimation ends up license rescuing Mao-Chan (given how it's by Ken Akamatsu).
 
I totally forgot that Geneon had the Cardcaptor Sakura DVDs. It would be so cool if Funimation could rescue it. I wonder if they would be able to redub it or if they could only release the subtitles if they got the rights to it. Even though I already have the whole series, I wouldn't mind seeing them get Fushigi Yugi. It is a fun series and it would be kind of cool to see them re-release it so that people wouldn't have to search through used DVD's to find the series.

I wouldn't be surprised if they would rescue the Lupin III series since they already have the movies either.
 
Personally, out of the 5 anime listed, I would like to see Paranoia Agent, Fighting Spirit, and Lain to be rescued by someone. Especially Fighting Spirit, so that way, we can have an excuse to bring over New Challenger.

Out of the anime that aren't listed yet, I want my Lupin III to come back, but last I heard, I thought that there were some tricky details. Though I will take Soul Taker as well.
 
Hellsing Ultimate is the only thing I care about and I'm suprised not to see it on the list. Knowing funi they would do their best to bring the cast back.
 
I would love to see the rest of the Tenchi series re-released. I missed out on the fist OVAs and have been hoping for a re-release from Geneon before it closed. Would like to agree with those on seeing Serial Experiments: Lain and the ROD: TV rescued. For some reason, I thought Soul Taker was a Bandia release but I would not mind seeing it rescue too. Would also like to see Dual! re-released.

-Tenchi series


I would also like the Utena series from CPM rescued ^^
 
That title's actually listed at funimation.com, web page and all.



I hear that. At least all 39 episodes are now available to subscribers online at Anime Network. It certainly beats tracking down the rare DVD's at this point...I still need to get through the whole thing.
 
I'm gonna 1-UP you guys and comment on what I think Funi may or may not have their sites on:

-3x3 Eyes

Pretty likely, it's short and it's a classic and I can see Funi possibly getting this.

-Ai Yori Aoshi & Enishi

They got Chobits, and this has a good nostalgia thing going for it.

I've heard good things about this show so I would say probably.

I didn't even know that Geneon had the rights to this. It seems more likely Nozomi would get this.

-Cardcaptor Sakura

Weird thing. It's CLAMP, BUT it's not dubbed CLAMP. I'd say 50/50. There is a good likelyhood that Funi may bring new life into this series by giving it a new dub but it is the Magical Girl genre which has always been a hard sell. Then again because it's linked with Tsubasa/xxxHolic you never know.

This is not very likely. While it is true that Funi has licensed a portion of the newer Lupin movies it is also obvious they weren't big sellers as they haven't gotten more. It's really hard to push old school anime and just recently Funi had to give up on the Conan TV series so I think they will definitely pass on this. This however doesn't mean another company couldn't pick it up and re-release the remainder of the series subtitled only.

If they DID get this then there is a strong possibility that they would try and revive the entire Sailor Moon franchise in America complete with a new dub...but until then this is just a pipe dream.

Honestly, I don't get why they haven't gotten any of these yet! They have deemed themselves the new owners of the
Tenchi franchise and went to painstaking levels just to reunite the voice cast for the third OAV as well as license the Sasami series. This is a no-brainer!
