Blog Talkback: Future Spotlight II: The Amazing World Of Gumball

I think this is an ambitious series on Cartoon Network?s part. It?s being developed by Boulder Media and Dandelion Studios in the United Kingdom, with Germany?s Studio Soi working on the bulk of the 3D animation. It?s also uncommon for animation to use live-action backgrounds, with Sit Down, Shut Up being the only example I can think of off-hand. A lot of the people working on it believe that it could be the next big thing, and despite being a European production, people who have seen it have expressed that it?s indiscernible from a U.S. show. It?s a storyboard driven series as well, which is usually a good thing. Hopefully we can learn more about it prior to its premiere later this year.

Gumball indeed sounds like an ambitious undertaking for Cartoon Network. The fact that the show's producers are being so closed-mouthed about the series only further wets my appetite for it.

Cartoon Network of late has had something of a history of highly hyped and anticipated shows which I had high hopes for that ultimately didn't live up to those expectations: Chowder, Hero: 108, Adventure Time (well, this show disappointed me!), Robotomy. So I really hope that The Amazing World of Gumball turns out to be worth the wait.
