Cool Stuff: Alma

When I was 4 years old, I saw the Twilight Zone episode, Living Doll and it screwed with my tiny, little noggin'. I kid you not when I say it scared the hell out of me. My grandmother had bought me "life-size" doll earlier. After viewing that show I stopped playing with it (just to be safe) and eyed it with distrust whenever I would pass by. I began playing with G.I. Joes and other toys I could crush, like Godzilla would. I think, anyway. What the hell do I remember about being four? Anyway, I have an irrational dislike of dolls, specifically the types featured in this short.

Alma was written and directed by Rodrigo Blaas. Check out their "About" page for the full team credits. The film has received a number of awards and honorable mentions. My only complaint was in the design of the main character. I thought her head was slightly misshapen and sat oddly on her neck. Otherwise I thought everything moved nicely, was well-rendered and creeped me the hell out. Thanks. Lots.

I had a similar experience after accidentally seeign a trailer for "Child's Play 3", when I was 5. Never even went near a doll again for a good few years.
