My debit card had expired around june of 2005, while I was waiting for my new card and account to be sorted out due to my enrolement in university, I hadn't been able to rent from BlockBuster and therefore had no outstanding copies, or debt.

However when I was then ready to enter my new card details in and continue with the service, I was shocked to see that several payments had been taken off for the months when I hadn't rented from the website, these are as follows: 19th July, 19th August, 19th September, 19th October.

is this allowed?

they have charged me using the service when I never actually got an DVD's off them!

i've emailed them and I am awaiting a reply

If they refuse to give me the money back can anyone suggest a suitable next step to take

cheers

Were you allowed to rent (movies could have been sent to you) during the payment subscription period?

If so, you have no excuse, despite the fact that your debit card has expired. You should have cancelled.

They will probably give you a refund anyway!

i had the same with lovefilm, i cancelled, 12 months later they said i hadnt i still ended up paying "cars" and didnt get anything for it even though my love film account had and would of been suspended the whole time.. however we are talking about a reputable company now, rather than the joke that is lovefilm

I had no problems cancelling LoveFilm nor did family and frienRAB. The problem we had was LoveFilm not sending DVRAB out as regularly as they should, sometimes it took days! Blockbuster were almost as bad. Every other company ships DVRAB within 1 working day of receiving a DVD back.

Theyll probably argue that tho you didnt receive any DVRAB you could have as your membership was still 'active' A colleague of mine had the same problem with Tesco but after he queried it they changed his account to a 'holiday' one where it was suspended for 6 months.

He never did get his refund from them tho

But good luck with BB

I think Blockbuster are mucking me around. I suppose I could blame the fact I'm a heavy user since I rejoined them on 31st October (20 discs in three weeks but hey, I'm on the five discs package and the discs aren't all for my own viewing so 'I' get through them fairly quickly).

I sent them back four discs in one batch on Sunday. Nary a word in two days (you'll get told whether or not Blockbuster have received the discs by around 11am at the latest).

...either there are post box thieves in my area (I hope to God not), the discs are lost in the post (I blame the flimsy easy-to-open plastic envelopes but I stick sellotape on mine!) or I do suspect Blockbuster's good will for my allowed consumption is waning and they're 'rationing' how many discs I can have for one month.

It may be coincidence or I'm impatient (I don't think so and although arguably I am, what's that gotta do with anything?)

I'll probably have to report five missing discs tomorrow. :(

You have to cancel with all these online rental companies. So many people wait until their card expires and then presume it has automatically been cancelled. If your list is active it means you can still rent a movie.

You could always send them an email and tell them you sent them a cancellation email just to see how they reply.

Ok this is a bit confusing, when you say your debit card had expired in June 2005, does that mean you had cancled your account with blockbuster? if you havnt then they can charge you per month even if you dont rent dvRAB. Its a monthly subscription, or did you sign up for a monthly subscribtion with blockbuster?. You best cancel your monthly subscription, and use there pay per rent option, much easier.

Dont forget, if you have a subscription with blockbuster they can take up to
