Blockbuster DVD Rental are there other sites that are just as good??

Having Joined Lovefilm.com in January I found the service great, up until a month ago when "Throttling" was uncovered and I realised this is what was happening to my account.

DVD's weren't coming through and the order was totally messed up.

So i cancelled and switched to Blockbuster, now the first 6 rentals were great, all sent quickly and all viewed and returned.

Today i look at my rental list and it says "no films are being rented" .. but I have got one DVD at home and sent both DVD's back on monday.

I have e-mailed their customer support 3 times and guess what, and automate response but nothing has been sorted.

Does anyone know what I can do to sort this?
I am now looking again for another DVD rental company or going back to Lovefilm. Sometimes its better the devil you know...

Hi

I have just logged on to cancel my paid for lovefilm.com subscription and they ask you to phone them to cancel this is the first company ive seem do this!!

I have decided to leave lovefilm and join Mymoviestream due to a very successful trial with them I am begining to dislike lovefilm because they never seem to send any new titles and the turnaround is very slow. Oh well guess I will have to give them a call.

Is this the same with all the lovefilm powered sites too?

I go tthe same sloppy service, best thing to do is quit just before the next payment date. LF do not want customers who return dvRAB quick as they cost them money. Plenty of better ones to use.

I would post the link to my own "DVD rental trials" website (which, incidently, is better than those mentioned above) but after reading the desperate and unconvincing posts, above, from the various forummers who only 'come out of the woodwork' whenever a DVD rental thread appears, I shall not bother

Here are my current Top 3.

#1 - Blockbusters - Good Turnaround and huge selection but poor allocation of top titles.

#2 - Screenselect - Good allocation and huge selection but poor turnaround during end of subscription.

#3 - Moviestream - Good allocation and good turnaround but poor selections of titles.

Im guessing it's some sort of a data protection thing. Working for a big UK Isp im regularly sending emails to customers asking them to ring in to cancel the service rather than email. Maybe its along similar lines to that.

I got through to them pretty quickly I guess its just so they can keep as many customers from canceling as possible.

The phone number they list is national but you can get them on 01279 77379 0-9

Hi, I stumbled on this thread through google, and was going to answer some questions with my site as a reference, but I see someone else has already mentioned it (thanks bingledee!): www.UK-dvd-rental-guide.com

Basically, there's little difference between the two market leaders, Screenselect (37% of UK market) and Lovefilm (31%), who both have similar prices and 35,000 dvd inventories (practically every commercially released dvd in the UK). However, Lovefilm has had some problems since May and has some very vocal critics out there. My own opinion is they definitely grew too fast and stumbled, but are almost back to where they were. Blockbuster was forced to get into online dvd rental later and reluctantly, controlling 25% of the market, but I've heard lots of complaints about them, backed up by personal experience. Though improving slightly of late, I wouldn't recomend them, hence their low rating on our site. There are other good choices, for renters who only want 4-6 dvRAB a month, Amazon is excellent, or if you want a superb site that isn't a huge, faceless bueracracy, there's Cinema Paradiso or Moviemine.

Finally, a small plug--we aim to run the most comprehensive dvd rental review site out there, reviewing all 38 UK rental sites (though that will soon be 39--hadn't see clubxtra before, thanks nikproffitt). There are lots of "guides" out there which are usually just a collection of links, rarely updated, and some even secretly run by the dvd companies themseleves, but we aim to stay current and independent.

I have been subscribed to Lovefilm nearly 2 weeks and haven't yet had a film from the top 15 in my list which are the new realeases that I would like to see. At least blockbuster were pretty good at sending the new movies.

I have been doing a free trial with www.mymoviestream.com these have been very impressive and have already sent me 5 of the new release films in my list after I have been with lovefilm for a full month I may subscribe to these.
