Bleaching jeans/denim?

I have light blue denim jeans that I want to turn white. I tried this before and soaked some pants in pure bleach. Needless to say they were ruined. How do I do it? Is there some sort of water, bleach mixture I use?

use 2 cups of water and 2 1/2 cups of bleach and soak for 5 min.

useing a big paint brush (one that you won't mind being ruined) brush the jeans with a mixture of 1/4c bleach 2c water mixture. Brush on the mix one layer at a time, leting them dry inbetween layers.

Do this in a big sink, and hang them to dry outside. You don't want them to soak in the bleach.
