This story was pretty interesting and I wanted to see how you guys felt about your favorite manga ranking up in the book charts.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-02/bleach-enRAB-watchmen-11-month-run-as-no.1-graphic-novel

To be fair Watchmen was on top for 11 months in a row, which is pretty good for a comic that come out 20 years ago. Watchmens' popularity has likely waned a bit because the movie is out of theaters, but it seems unlikely Bleach will sustain that kind of reign on the top.

I still think that Bleach will go down in Next Month charts for something else. But I didn't see that coming, and by that, I mean Bleach ending Watchmen reign as #1 Graphic Novel. Oh well, whatever, it wasn't going to last forever.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday and thought it was pretty cool. It's still not that big, but it's nice to see that manga can compete with American comics.

You guys do know that nearly every other comic on the list for those 11 months was manga, right? Watchmen soared to the top for so long because of buzz about the movie, and many people who never read comics finally took notice of it. (This is not Bashing watchmen AT ALL. I know it is better than the majority of manga).

Being on time's 50 greatest novels didn`t hurt either.

Full aware of that, my brother and I are one of those people that bought Watchmen GN before the movie came out, even though I didn't read it until after I saw the movie, but he did. After all it was easier to buy it than to rent it, and it payed out for me as it is now one of my favorite stories.

I'm kind of surprised Watchmen had a runthat lasted over a year. It's a great read and all but I didn't expect it to go 11 months as #1. Congratultions to Bleach even though it's not likely to hold that spot for 2 months.

Well, I'm happy a comic beaten Watchman rank, but I was hoping for some other Comic then “Bleach”. I'm not hating on Bleach or anything, but it will great for once to see a Comic out of no where comes out of the top. Or better yet, an OEL Manga being Nuraber #1 for once.

Anyways, good for Bleach.

I've only read the first 2 chapters of the Watchmen GN, but I thoroughly enjoyed what I read of it, and I plan to find a way to get some time to read it and finish it later on, when I can manage to get back to a bookstore.

On the other hand, I've read well over 300 chapters of Bleach, and out of all that I read, I was never once impressed by it. That's not to say that I find it to be a bad series, but to me, its just a mediocre shounen, and while I don't really care so much that it topped Watchmen, I would have liked it a bit better if it was a manga that was actually, well....better.

**Note to any Bleach fans around here: Please don't flame me, I'm merely only expressing my personal opinion**

Personally,I'm glad....I love the Bleach manga, and it's nice to see it hit the #1 slot on the graphic novel chart (especially since volume 27 has one of my favorite chapters in it)...

I imagine Fruits Basket volume 23 will topple it,though, seeing as it's a very popular series, and it's the final volume.....

Unless that Bleach volume sold significantly more than the others recently it's more the case that Watchmen finally lost steam than the competition got stronger.

Though I'm surprised Bleach was #1 rather than Naruto because I thought they were on another Naruto manga onslaught but maybe they aren't anymore.

Strong together,
United forever,
They're the best of frienRAB!

But when troubles about,
You best watchout....

FOR THE BLEACHMEN!

Seriously though, I'm with Sketch on this one. Expected Naruto to be the one end this. Should really get to buying that dang graphic novel, been planning to get it before the movie came out.

I fail to see how this is an accomplishment considering that Watchmen was on top for 11 months, and we already had a few Bleach volumes out in those months. Now, after nearly a year Watchmen was bound to lose steam to something with multiple novels released.

Naruto's popularity is beginning to collapse because the TV dub is no longer on the air. Naruto MUST stay on TV in order for its popularity to not wane, and Viz doesn't see that. Whether Cartoon Network is ruthlessly extorting Viz or Viz is being jerks, I don't care. If something isn't inked soon Naruto Shippudden will be a colossal borab by the third DVD singles set.

I think Viz would care about the health of the Naruto franchise, but CN would not.

Anyway I think comic books, in certain respects benefit from the power of Hollywood, often certain TPB spike when a movie about the title hero is released (like watchmen or Batman). If the Cowboy Bebop movie did well, you may see a similar spike in that title.

Well, so long as the subs stay up on Naruto.com, a lot of people could care less.

Viz probably won't make as much when putting their dub up for streaming, but alas. If they fail it's their fault.

Naruto is resigned to the same fate as One Piece. Viz has accepted that.

I doubt the singles will run very long before they begin putting out those over glorified box sets of theirs...
