Blade Runner, 'best sci-fi of all time'

I saw it when I was studying media studies :o I really liked it, but can't remember it now even though it was just a couple of years ago.
And be nice to Phantom Menace, it wasn't as bad as the one after. It was good when I was 8 :(

This kind of attitude is pathetic. Can't you accept that some people just aren't going to like the film, without them having to be brain dead morons who just want two hours of action? And the last time I watched it was in a dark room, alone, it still didn't grab me.

The thing with Blade Runner is even though there are other films I want to watch many times is that you don't ever forget it.

A lot of classic and highly regarded films are like that. They're very well made and thought provoking and that's why they're good.

Take Alien and Aliens (the sequel) for example. IMO I prefer Aliens, it kicks arse, is great sci fi the characters are great and it's really atmospheric. I personally prefer Aliens any day of the week to Alien but as to which is the better film then the criteria must be different to judge which is better.

Which is the more artistic, the more technical and the more impressive direction - certainly Alien. I felt drained after watching Alien and didn't particularly enjoy it but it is simply a far more powerful and absorbing film than Aliens.

Which is the more enjoyable and entertaining - Aliens. I've watched Aliens Special Edition many, many times and Alien just a couple.

So better depenRAB which dimensions of betterness you're looking at.

As for Blade Runner, it obviously doesn't have a sequel but it is the same thing, a very powerful and moving film. I didn't particularly enjoy it and found it quite depressing but there's no doubt it left an impression on me. In fact I don't really ever want to watch it again but I can see why people say it's a great film because as a piece of art it's so absorbing.

Oh and by the way I'd rewatch Phantom Menace before I'd rewatch Blade Runner. :) The only thing about Phantom Menace that annoys me is the ridiculous scenes with Anakin in the spaceship destroying the Trade Federation's ship.

I'm the same, never liked it as a kid but fell in love with it when I watched as an adult. It's not my personal number 1, that place will always be reserved for Ridley's other great materpiece Alien but i'm happy to see Blade Runner in that spot :)

Blimey how can anyone loathe Sean Young. She is one of the all time (in my opinion) Hollywood beauties. Then again, beauty and personality definately do not always go hand in hand.

Blade Runner is a masterpiece of cinema which will not please everyone. That is what is so good about film. There is enough going round to cover every taste.

As with all lists it's important to know who voted. In this case it was writers of Total Sci-Fi, who may have different criteria as the rest of public. I happen to like Blade Runner, although I do not know if I'd call it the best.

Blade Runner is possibly one of my all time favourite films. I can understand why people don't care much for it though but for me, it's the perfect film, its just breathtaking in it's design. Every time I watch it I discover something new about it, whether that's a beautifully designed detail in one of the shots (ie. square drinking glasses) or another layer to the story.

I tried watching Blade Runner twice... I thought it was a steaming pile of crap. Can't believe I wasted my time trying, and it was a good thing I watched it on Sky Movies HD first, I was actually going to buy it on DVD in the ultimate box set first because I had heard nothing but positive things said about it. So glad I didn't get it. That would have been such a waste of money.

Total Recall at 20 and Terminator 2 at 32!, i always thought that TR was a better film, good to see Star Trek II TWOK get in the top 20 at 19 :)

Although Blade Runner is a good movie, it is rather slow and tedious in parts.

I still think Close Encounters of The Third Kind is much better though.

For the people who think it was slow, dull and boring I would be interested in seeing what Sci-fi films you like and consider great, I don't want to pick at your lists or anything (we all have our own personal taste), just interested.

It's a Marmite movie for sure. It's also my favourite sci-fi film of all. But I can understand how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of rosie.
I love everything about it, the melancholy and slow moving, brooding story... the actors all come up trumps... Vangelis just nails the score completely... visually it was absolutely stunning on release and it still looks fabulous.... I love the "Is Deckard a replicant?" puzzle that will forever remain a puzzle... Rachel.... Roy.... tears in rain... it's the dogs bollocks :D
