Ok, I know this is kind of a goofy comparison, but I'd just like some input.
I'm out of contract with Cingular and want a phone with a qwerty keyboard. I do not want a big phone - I want something I can put in my pocket. As far as Cingular goes, the only phone currently available that has a qwerty keyboard and is small enough for me to pocket regularly is the Blackjack.
Cingular has comparable coverage to Verizon in my area, and in my searching for current phones with qwerty keyboards, I started looking at the enV. One major coverage difference is data - EVDO with Verizon and only EDGE with Cingular (in Eugene, OR).
Pricing plans for what I'm looking at are also similar, as are phone prices. Either way I go, it'll be on a one year contract.
I don't need a smartphone - I don't even really want one. Back in the day, I'd be all for a smartphone, but these days I want something simple that just works. I don't need the ability to read office docs, fancy calender or contact options, etc. I want something I can browse the web with, send\receive e-mail and text msg's, and use as a regular phone very often.
So far I'm leaning towards the enV - I don't need windows mobile, I don't need most of it's features, and I like the keyboard on the enV a lot more. i don't like how difficult it is to scroll on the enV. Verizon is also an unknown to me (I'm familiar with Cingular, where I'll lose service, where I should stand at work for best service, etc). I know I get a 30 day test drive with Verizon, but it's still a learning process.
I don't like the Blackjacks shape (not as pocket friendly as the enV), and I like the "regular phone" feel of the enV. Further, I'm past the stage where I want to hack and mess with windows mobile. I've had WM devices in the past, and while the ability to download programs is great, hassling with making them work right is kind of annoying. Yes I know Verizon will cost more to get the apps I want, but I like knowing they should work right. I do like having IE on the Blackjack, and I love the freedom of GSM (I have several older GSM phones, so if I ever wanted to leave the blackjack at home I could take a z520a or nokia 6230b with me). I've also not ever had Verizon, so I'll have to adjust to the crippling of the phone rather than hooking up bluetooth and adding whatever I want to add.
Thanks to anyone who made it this far Based on the above, does anyone have extended experience with either of these phones (or even better, BOTH!) that might be able to add something that I haven't considered yet?
