Blackberry Data to iPhone Data

Hey guys - I was just wondering what the difference is betwen going from Blackberry Data Plan to iPhone. I have 1 gig @ $30 a month for my Bold but I'm wanting to switch to the iPhone. Any info would be great. Thanks

Don't really understand the question but the two phones have completely different operating systems. You can purchase a BB w/o a data plan but AT&T makes you purchase a data plan with the iPhone.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

I'm thinking that since this is the rogers forum, they are wondering about their procedures for changing plans and maybe price options with rogers.

I could be wrong though

Yup, you're probably right. I read the post several times and just didn't read it that way until you mentioned that.

Thanks...Yeah, someone else familiar with Rogers plans can hopefully come along and answer the OP.

azstar is correct.

I have switched from the bold to the iphone. I just wondered if my 1 gig blackberry plan would work on my iPhone.

Sorry if my post was confusing.

When u switch between two devices, with different os (generic, windows, apple, BlackBerry), Rogers will require you to call in and update the data plan on your account (SOC code). If you don't change it, let's say BlackBerry to iPhone), then your account may not recognize you're on an iphone, you account sees you're not on a BlackBerry anymore and will charge you the per/mb rate. Not cool.

So if you're going to be switching between different devices that have a different OS, call Rogers and get them to update your data pkg (and no you don't have to resign your agreement as they'll try to sell you).

It is my understanding that since they are two different animals they require two different foods...... I beleive that you have to be put on the iphone side of the pool..

i'm surprised noone said any thing but:

Blackberry data vs. Iphone data has been debated since the iphone came out and the unlimited browsing on mobile phones (wap only!!)

Blackberry devices route all web browsing, email push, info push, and any other data requests from your handheld through their own proprietary servers, this in essence works as a firewall hence the vaunted "security" of Blackberry devices. This also compresses data that you use and i'm not sure the ratio but it is very minimal. FOr example, In any period with hard surfing and 9 active email accounts and various push services, IM that i have i rarely break 150mbs of usage. That being said i alos have a Rocket stick from rogers which uses the same data plans as an Iphone and for one week i used it instead of the blackberry and i easily hit over 1gb(in 1 week!). (using a rocket stick on an MSI wind, checking 9 emails frequently, sports, weather, various surfing and work related items, multi IM programs), thats not even including the other fun stuff i use the bb for like Texas Hold'em 3 Multiplayer!!and wordmole vs friends LOL

so you will be using more data with an iphone and the 6gb plan they had is no longer available but at least they(Rogers) capped the data usage to a maximum $100 /billing period

just imagine what the usage will be with the new OS coming for Iphone which will include their push services!(though i heard there will be some type of compression as well).

Blackberry data plans will not work with Iphones and vice versa.

i know this is a little late but i hope it helps

THE 6GB DATA IS AVAILABLE AGAIN FOR $30/month. If you switch from BB to Iphone the BB data will work on any data device there is. However the $30 you are spending only gets you 1GB you could get 6GB for the same price till the end of July if you call and change it.

Woohoo!!! Got my plan updated!!! Thanks for the info! They also gave free incoming calls for the rest of my contract and a $10 bill credit every mth of my data contract too.
