BlackBerry 9700 vs. Apple iPhone 4 (part 1)

I am thinking of throwing in the towel on Blackberry. The company is becoming irrelevant incredibly fast. Google and Apple are eating RIM's lunch and they can't defend themselves.

I have a 9700 and have been a loyal Blackberry user for 5 years, buying on average 2 blackberries a year.

The Torch looks like a flop. I have a hardware upgrade available to me and am looking at using it on an iphone 4.

Can I please hear from Blackberry users who have had a 9700 and have switched to an iphone 4. What are your comments? Is it worthwhile to switch?

Although I don't have an iPhone 4, I have both an iPhone 3GS (which is similar to an iPhone4 minus a few features) and a Bold 9700.

I like my Bold 9700 for e-mailing, chatting, and texting. I use my iPhone 3GS more for "fun", browsing, and for SIP service which even though I have a SIP program on my Bold 9700, the SIP program that I have on my iPhone has better audio quality than the SIP program that I'm using on my Bold 9700.

OP, you'll probably get a better response in the Apple forum. And I'm confused...your thread title says "Sold the Bold 9700 and bought an iphone 4 and love it!!!", yet your first post says you are "thinking" about switching. Which is it?

I can chime in on this. I made the move, and to be honest, I don't regret it. BB still makes solid devices, but as mentioned above, they are getting left behind. I should say that they are leaving themselves behind. I truly loved my 9630, and even though there were quirks with it, I will miss it. Will I ever go back to it after using an iPhone4? Absolutely not. I will miss BB greatly, and unless they get their act together, they will have a hard time keeping customers.

Dude's a troll...doing the same misleading title compared to the post in the Apple forum as well... http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1671222-Have-the-iphone-4-and-miss-my-Bold-9700

BlackBerry isn't 'falling behind' anything. It was never competing against the iPhone or Android based phones to begin with. It is the media that clumps the BlackBerry in with the other two and does comparisons that make no sense what so ever. The only thing they got right, that was a valid comparison was the BlackBerry's ****** web browser in which as we now know(for better or worse depending on user) is a massive change on RIM's part with their new operating system.

The BlackBerry itself isn't even in the same league as the iPhone or an Android based device. It's one of many smart phones that consumers can choose from that has its own style, functionality and purpose. It fits a particular demographic and the fact that it has or does not have certain features that the others do not is simply moot because it comes down to user preference anyway. People need to stop taking sides like this is some kind of war, because this is not the point. All of these phones are fantastic and offer a variety of features to the user... which one is better for you depends on what YOU want in your phone.

Please read the post carefully and slowly if you need to. Not trolling. I need to use a hardware upgrade certificate. I am not saying one is better than the other. I want to hear from people who ditched their 9700 for an iphone 4 and have no regrets.

It makes a bit more sense now that the title has been changed. You have to admit that it did seem quite trollish.

Me too! I've been back & forth so many times between BlackBerry & iPhone it's not even funny...and actually sold my first iPhone 4 and went back to BB (9700) because of the iP4's proximity sensor frustrations...but after I exchanged the 9700 for the disappointing 9800 Torch...I couldn't wait to run back to the iPhone 4!!

Will I ever return to BlackBerry? I'll never say never...but I'm really liking the iP4 having spent some quality time with it.

Good to see ya back, Fluid!

Messaging and email-wise, I just couldn't stand the iPhone. For me, the on-screen keyboard also doesn't cut it when I need to type something out quickly and without constantly glancing at the screen. So yeah, I'm sticking with the BB 9700. The new browser is just a bigger incentive to, but then I hardly use my phone for media-capabilities.

Really am liking the BlackBerry 9780 w/OS6, better browser and memory boost! I'd trade my iPhone for that. I know it's not officialy released yet...but some do have them already.

i think it depends on what you like in a phone.. i dont like touch screen keyboard very much it doesnt feel the same.. and i dont use my phone for all the "fun" stuff.. its mainly emails, txting and bbm so a blackberry is perfect for me
